A newcomer to the North faculty is Miss Audrey Aastad. Miss Aastad re- placed Mrs. Natalie Adair in the English department and as co-sponsor of Y-Teens at the second quarter. Playing the piano, reading and crea- tive writing occupy her spare time. Miss Aastad was graduated from the University of Iowa where she re- ceived her bachelor of arts degree and did a year and a half of graduate work. Miss Ruth Barrett has been an in- structor in North's social science department for 22 years. Miss Barrett teaches American and World history. Miss Barrett also serves on the Military Ball committee. Her in- terests outside of school include travel, the theater and reading. Miss Barrett has attended Grinnell college and the Universities of Omaha and Nebraska. She has both her bachelor's and her master's degrees. The first baby, Linda, in October was a big event for world history and physical education teacher Kenneth D. Bauermeister. Mr. Bauermeister also coaches freshman football at McMillan Junior High, freshman bas- ketball and freshman and reserve baseball. He enjoys refereeing, spec- tator sports and fishing. He has a bachelor of arts degree from Buena Vista college and his master's degree from Omaha university. From Ponca City, Okla. came Dwight Beck at the beginning of the second semester to replace Mrs. Virginia Southwick. Mr. Beck is an instructor in the mathematics department. Mr. Beck likes to hunt, and he also enjoys basketball, baseball a d football. Mr. Beck was graduate from Oklahoma State university th a bachelor of science degree 'n natural science 9 lVliss anet Berrjis teaching her first year in North's English department. Miss Berry has also taken the co- sponsorship of Junior Red Cross. She is very interested in music, especially in playing the piano. Miss Berry's hobbies are swimming and reading. Miss Berry was graduated from Michigan State college where she re- ceived her bachelor of science de- gree. She has also attended Creighton university. W. Albert Black has been a member of North's social science department for three years. Mr. Black teaches world and American history. He is also co-sponsor of Junior Red Cross. Mr. Black cooked for himself be- fore he was married, and this is now his favorite hobby. He has at- tended Kearney State college and Colorado university. He has both his bachelor of arts and master of edu- cation degrees. American government teacher Leonard Bond's school day starts before the 8:19 bell with the issuing of boys' absence checks. He also coaches re- serve football and track. Being a member of the Homecoming com- mittee and Senior activities commit- tee are among Mr. Bond's other school jobs. Mr. Bond was graduated from Omaha university where he received his bachelor of arts degree. Mrs. Mary S. Brown has been a member of the Viking faculty for three years. Mrs. Brown teaches American and world history and world geography. She is also one of the co-sponsors of S.T.S. and the head of the Patriotic committee. Cooking and reading take up much of Mrs. Brown's spare time. She has her bachelor of science degree from Nebraska and her master's from Omaha university. Modern Concepts of Math is a new course for seniors this year which John C, Bryan, head of the mathematics department, has intro- duced. He also started honors trigo- nornetry classes. Mr. Bryan is co- sponsor of Digits. Gardening is his leisure time activity. Mr. Bryan has attended the Universities of Omaha, Nebraska and Wisconsin. A pretty sure bet would be that Miss Cleo Butler is one of the busiest faculty members. She is head of the homemaking department, sponsor of F.H.A., sponsor of F.T.A. and a member of the Women's Study and Christmas Tea committees. Outside of school she likes to work with furnishings and food preparation. She has her bachelor of science and master of arts degrees from Nebraska university's Teachers college. Being counselor of the senior girls takes up much of Miss Clare Carey's time. Miss Carey teaches first year Spanish and world history. She is also a member of the Courtesy com- mittee. Miss Carey enjoys traveling, but she doesn't have enough time to tour as much as she would like. Reading is another of her favorite interests. Miss Carey has her bache- lor of arts and her master's degrees from Creighton university. A good-natured stage-hand is Floyd L. Chase. Stage manager isn't his only occupation at North, he also teaches advanced industrial arts. The State Teachers college at Peru was the scene of his undergraduate work. He received his master's degree from Missouri university. When out- side of school, he enjoys his stamp collection and lodge work. During the summer he works as a claim adjuster and travels through nearby states. Who's the master sergeant in this picture? Getting boys and girls in the right jobs is Mrs. Mary Uhl Collins' chief interest and led to her becoming a shorthand and type teacher. Head ot the business department, Mrs. Collins co-sponsors Greggites and is on the Employment committee. indulging in her favorite hobby, Mrs. Collins toured Europe last summer. Mrs. Collins attended Gregg college for her business training. She has her bachelor's and master's degrees from Omaha university. Being director of vocal music and sponsor of Bel Canto and Modern Music Masters leaves Miss Tvvila Covvman with little spare time. Miss Cowman says, ilBoys are my hobby, but I have a hard time getting four boys to prepare a quartet. She en' joys the Jack Paar Show where she gets new techniques. Miss Cowman began her music study at South Da- kota university, continuing it at Northwestern, the Fred Waring school and other choral schools during the summer. Though she is behind the scenes assisting the choir in their perform- ances, Mrs. Beverly J. COX is in front as far as piano aid to Miss Covvman goes. Mrs. Cox uses her talent for two purposes. Not only is she ac- companist to the Viking vocal music department, but she also plays for her church's three choirs. This takes a great deal of time for she must at- tend at least three practices a week. When she has spare time, she enjoys reading. Teaching physiology and health and biological sciences are among Miss Alice B. Crocker's assignments. Her other duties include freshman girls' counselor, Activities chairman and a member of the Military Ball com- mittee. Miss Crocker's favorite hobby is meeting and talking to people. Miss Crocker has her bachelor of arts degree from Nebraska university and her master's degree from Chicago university. Physics is the subject which Harold Dally teaches. Mr. Dally is also co- sponsor of Fire Patrol and a mem- ber of the Christmas Tea committee. Woodworking is Mr. Dally's favorite hobby. In his leisure time, Mr. Daily likes to hunt and fish. Mr. Dally has been on North's faculty since Janu- ary, 1925. He has his bachelor of science degree from the University of Nebraska. Head of North's science department, James H. Dorsey, is the only teacher who has been at North since it opened in 1924. Mr. Dorsey teaches chemistry and is a faculty member of the Board of Control. Garden work and reading rare his favorite hobbies. Mr. Dorsey is a graduate of Peru State college, He has his bache- :or of arts degree from the University of Nebraska. .
