WiTh The opening OT The Mc Millan Junior High School in SepTember, l958, more Than halT oT The ninTh grade sTudenTs aTTended The Mc lvlillan Junior High School. As The Omaha Public Schools open addiTional Jun- ior high schools, NorTh High School will be- come a Three year senior high school. ln December oT i958 consTrucTion oT Three new wings aT NorTh High School was begun. The addiTional TaciliTies which are being consTrucTed aT a cosT oT a million dollars will make iT possible Tor NorTh High School To beTTer meeT The needs oT iTs sTu- denTs. For a number oT years Two sTudenTs have been occupying The space designed Tor The use OT one sTudenT. The new adcliTions To The building along wiTh The TransTer OT The ninTh grade To The iunior high schools should provide living room Tor sTudenTs.i I2 The new academic wing will include TiTTeen addiTional classrooms. The new Tine arTs ad- diTion will provide rehearsal and pracTice rooms abouT The audiTorium Tor boTh vocal and insTrumenTal music. The new gymnasium will make iT possible To have an inTra-mural program of aThleTics as well as an improved physical educaTion program. The new caTe'- Teria will malce iT possible To shorTen The lunch lines. The presenT O30 sTudy hall will become an acTiviTy room which will be used by The R.O.T.C. and as a room where sTu- denTs can parTicipaTe in recreaTional acTi- viTies aTTer They have eaTen lunch. The pres- enT 220 library will be enlarged and will in- clude a conference room. The new building should be in operaTion by The Tall oT I96O. Since The old building will be renovaTed every deparTmenT will have improved Ta- ciliTies. The curriculum oT NorTh High School is consTanTly being evaluaTed by sTaTT mem- bers. ln The Tall oT i958 honor courses were sTarTed in maThemaTics, English, and sci- ence. These courses provide superior sTu- denTs an opporTuniTy To proceed aT a TasTer pace Than in The regular academic classes. NorTh High School endeavors To meeT The needs of sTudenTs and To provide a suiTable curriculum Tor Those people who TerminaTe Their Tormal educaTion upon graduaTion Trom high school as well as Those who go on To college.
