PHYSICAL EDUCATION Two years of physical activity are required for graduation. Thus, most students are active in athletics or in milder physical education. Boys' sports follow the seasons, and include football, basketball, wrestling, track and base- ball. Not to receive minor mention is the good sportsmanship developed by participation in these events Basketball baseball volleyball tennis and badminton consume the time of the girls This year cage ball and deck tennis were intro duced to the roster In addition girls may belong to the rifle team or learn grace and poise in the dancing class INDUSTRIAL ARTS All year long the saws in the shop buzzed busily the boys in the industrial arts depart ment were getting practical experience ap plicable to a profession after graduation This course also helps them to become general handymen capable of repairing mechanica defects and constructing wood products Mechanical and architectural drawing are also included in the course These boys pre pare to outline the future as Mr Burkholder and Mrs Students study In 220 library Simpson discuss book select ons SOCIAL STUDIES Social studies is the first history course with which freshmen come into contact It in cludes orientation to high school life and world geography The high school career then follows with world history American history and American government This year resulting from a school decision no American government classes were offered After l95'5 American government will be re quired during the senior year preceded by American history In former years this pat tern was reversed LIBRARY As a result of National Book Week in the fall the library has a greater selection of books now than ever before At that time extremely successful program of fund raising and student reading was originated Vikings were given 80 minutes of class time each day to read and at the conclusion of the week they donated five cents toward a fund for new books Forty magazine subscriptions six complete sets of encyclopedias and IO OOO books pro vide outstanding supplementary reading for all students Q19 1 1 1 SX . , , , , I , .
