James P Fotuas work as art un structor requires an almost abnor mal amount of patience and expe ruence he has an abundance of both Hus schedule is filled to the brim yet he funds time to help each budding artist A large amount of outsude work may also be found un his schedule for he works three nights a week at the YMCA As might be expected Mr Fotuas un terests and hobbues include sculp ture and painting h s also sports fan having played top notch football un hugh school Mr Fotua us a graduate of the University of Minnesota Any boy who has participated in Vukung athletics has probably been under the supervision of Carol R Gust Coach Gast which us hus popular name around chool us head coach of varsity football and base ball as well as freshman basket ball Last summer turning his at tentuon to finance he served as business manager for the three Storz sponsored Legion teams Dur ung regular school hours Mr Gast may be found conducting phy ical education classes and teaching so cial scuence A graduate of Wayne State Teachers College he has an MA from Creighton unuversuty Though on the Vukuna taff for only two years Muss Marlene Gatz has unassumungly made her presence felt Her poised smile and friendly uggestuons are unducatuons of her nopularuty with both students and faculty Teaching freshman and sophomore English compru es her daily schedule and being faculty advisor to Glacuers gurls English dis cussuon group occupies many of her after school hours Other outsude time us spent un swummung readung and driving She also enioys watch ung almost any type of sport and collects jewelry of varied metals and designs An understanding smile a pleasant appearance and a thoughful word all describe attendance clerk Mrs Gladys Gues It us her voice also that has talked over the phone to most of the i850 students for whom she keeps attendance records Row upon row of fules are kept un her offuce where aside from her record keeping she handles most of the mumeographed material for both the Englu h and social scuence de partments Mrs Gues also serves on the Art commuttee Summer funds her and her husband traveling to various pounts on the North Ameru can continent Always ready wuth a word of friend ly advice and genuine unterest for students selectung books us Mrs Florence Hallgren clerk un the lu brarues Alma Kansas us her home town There she became unterested un lubrary work although originally he had made plans for the business world. For the past nune years she has been at North, assisting stu- dents in O30 and performing as- sorted library duties. Outside of school Mrs. Hallgren enjoys doing handwork and related crafts. She regrets that she does not have more time to devote to her favorite pas- times cooking and sewing. The force behind the debate squad is without a doubt Miss Mary Elix- abeth Hamilton. The proposition, Resolved: That debators at North High could continue to receive high honors without Miss Hamilton is hardly debatable. In ad-lition to coaching the team Miss Hamilton sponsors the National Forensic League chapter accompanies stu- dents to debate and speech tourna- ments and teaches English and de- bate classes. As versatile in her leisure activities as in her regular school duties, Miss Hamilton loves to travel, read and swim. lOn Being chaurman of the Mulutary Ball commuttee says Muss Lucy Harte, u a very time consuming uob but ut us one which l enuoy very much Miss Harte always seems to be involved un bug uobs for her efficiency and wude experience are well known and appreciated Most of her chool time us devoted to be ung head of the homemakung de partment She us also a great favor ite among the seniors in her per sonal problems cla ses Freshman gurls have become especially well acquainted with Muss Harte for she has served thus year as ninth grade gurls counselor A new face un the mathematics de partment us that of Miss Marion S Heiser A graduate of Benson hugh she received her bachelors degree from the Unuversuty of Omaha and her masters degree from North western University at Evanston ll Iunous Although she teaches general math and alaebra Miss Heuser ma uored un Englu h un college Thus us her fourth year un the teaching pro fessuon before coming to North she taught at Alexandria Nebras ka lnstructung hugh school students seems to run un hcr family for her mother often substitutes at North Boys in the industrial arts depart ment classify E E Hellugso as a great teacher Head of the de partment since September 1953 Mr Hellugso has been a member of the faculty 30 years Recognuz ung the need for fire protection at North with the pruncupals OK Mr Hellugso founded the Fire Pa trol which he now helps to lead During the summer he combines business wuth pleasure by doing ,obs he considers as habbue planning ond erecting buuldunqs A graduate of Union college un Lincoln Mr Hellugso received his M A from the University of Michigan When Raymond E Henzluks time isnt occupied by school work from North his studies at the University of Nebra ka take precedence Mr l-lenzluk has mauored un biology at Lincoln and us currently working on his doctors degree there He us an un tructor un the scuence depart ment here at North teaching bu ology and general scuence besides servuna as co sponsor of the Sci ence Club Mr Henzluk also serves on the Audio visual and Honors committees to moke hu second year on the North Hugh faculty an especially busy one Headache stomach ache or ear ache whatever ut is Muss Helen Jelrnek has the magic touch I ten years as school nurse she has rnred for every tyoe of ailment real and IFTIOQIFIOYY Freshmen meet Miss Jelnek through their health examination cards and the T B test ung program A arartuate of St Josephs Hospital school of nursing and the University of Omaha, Miss Jelinek has also studied public health at three summer se-sions of the University of Michigan. This year Miss Jelinek was instrumental in the formation of cu club of Future Nurses of America at North. Grammar, punctuation rules, the stuily and appreciation of Shake- spearian plays and the history of Engli-h literature are the subjects which Miss Anna Jensen most en- 'oys teaching her Enalish students. For this, she has a wealth of per- sonal experience upon which to draw, she has visited manv place- associated with the world's most famous literary works. Her travels have le'1 to the European continent, the Scandinavian countries and Engf land, where she has visited the birthplaces of illustrious authors and poets. Miss Jensen is a graduate of the University of Nebraska.
