This year we feel that we have begun to realize the fulfillment of the omens of success. There have been several forces at work. The faithful earnest labor and sacrifices of our beloved president has meant the salvation of our college. But he, alone, could not have saved the day: it took the co-operation of the other members of the Board of Trustees with their tears and prayers, their encouragement and help. Some of these men represent districts: others, churches: others, the laymen directly. Hence, we look, ultimately, to the constituency of our educational zone as the very foundation of our success. It was through their vision that the school was first founded and likewise through their support that it has been enabled to continue. It is not when fortune is smiling upon one that he especially needs a friend, but when adversity meets him A friend in need is a friend indeed. The path through the yesterdays of the college has not always been strewn with roses: sometimes it has led through the valley, sometimes ascended the steeps and led through rugged places. Had it not been for the faithful assistance of a loyal constituency Olivet might not have surmounted its difficulties.
