Gary Zartman Outstanding Musician Recipient of the john P. Sousa Award Paul Gibbens 122 I Kevin Warrick The Music Awards Banquet was held on May 10, at 7:00 p. m. A pot luck dinner was enjoyed by a large crowd, in the commons area. Mr. Alsdorf recognized the vocal students and expressed his appreciation to all for their cooperation while he has been at Olathe High, Mr. Macy presented pins, bars or letters to band members based on service and points accumulated this year, For the first time at Olathe High the United States Marine Youth Band Association awarded two certificates to outstanding musicians for their distinguished service. Kevin Warrick and Paul Gibbens received these awards. Then Mr. Macy announced that Gary Zartman was selected as the recipient of the john P. Sousa award, as the outstanding senior. BLUE AND GOLD ASSEMBLY Doug Andrews Balfour Award Outstanding Senior Student May 23, was the long awaited day for the presentation of awards to students, in all areas, for their efforts and service to the school, The Balfour Award, which is awarded on the basis of scholarship, character, atti- tude and participation was presented to Doug Andrews, the outstanding senior stu- dent. Outstanding Language student was Kathy Bishop, recipient of the May Benson Award. Mr. Cordell presented Paul Gibbens with the outstanding achievement award in speech and debate. He also received the outstanding art award from Mr. Davis, Commander Childs presented Sheryl Gleason with the American Legion Military Excellence Award. Brent Young and Louis Miller were presented the out- standing debate award for qualifing for state. Brent was also junior Representative for F. F. A, , Chapter Fan'ner and District President of F. F. A. Cheryl Rottinghaus received the Melitta Davis Award, as the outstanding business student. Bruce Marolf--Outstanding Physics award--Co-Editor of school newspaper. Joni Pearce-- The most valuable student award--Annual staff, Ken Peterson--Outstanding Algebra Il Student, Doris Fister--Betty Crocker award, which is a scholarship in the amount of Sl, 500. This is based on scores achieved on the National test, and Teddi Roy--Outstanding service to the Business Department and the Outstanding Art Award.
