PfeJii eHt Saket A conservative Harvard background of teaching and administrative experience is combined with the liberal interests of an avid reader, sports lover, and an extensive traveler in President John C. Baker. Only a tew years ago, our fourteenth president remarked that he was looking forward to spending more time with his wife, Elizabeth, and three daughters. Realization of his intentions was deterred, however, when he accepted the position of U. S. Representative to UNESCO, demonstrating again his willingness to sacrifice personal desires for the betterment of mankind. Guiding Ohio University since World War II, Pres. Baker places emphasis on the development of established departments, in addition to constant expansion — academic improvement as well as physical growth, an outlook which may well have patterned his personal life. i . and Mrs. John C. Study is an inevitable part ot college lite. There are questions, there are answers, and we search to find the right answer. Some questions or problems may have no solutions, save in the weighing of the evidence in our minds and in the minds of others. But we try, and trying is the beginning of wisdom. Wisdom IS not only knowledge but the use of the knowledge retained. We use the knowledge tt) build better bridges, write better books, teach better principles, and to learn ourselves. It has been said that a httle knowledge is a dangerous thing: thus, the search can never cease, nor can the end ever be found. What we find we record for the future with the hope our discoveries were not wrong. And for every hour of study there is a period of relaxation. There are cups of coffee, cigarettes, and the casual boy-girl talk. Our motto becomes learn, then relax, but continue learning. W WW ' ! hf HMU leitfe 15
