The ijronp li,is now grown to include 82 chapters. IVew members are selected on the oasis of scliol- arship. leadership, and service to the University and are initiated durin one of the most impressive ceremonies of Traditions Weelc. New members are informed of tlieir appointment by a midnight sere- nade, and they receive a mortar board to be worn the following day. About noon on the following day their formal initiation ceremony begins with the traditional pro- cession of the old members on the Oval. After tliis the initiates are taken from their stations, at var- ious campus buildings, and join the procession which leads to the library where they are greeted by the faculty and alumni. A banquet follows the formal initiation at Mirror Lake and terminates the activities. The fourteenth triennial convention of the Mor- tar Board was held iti June 1940 at Brainerd, Mituiesota with the chapters president serving as the official delegate.
