IO The mystic wings of the Death Angel have brushed our lines, and a vacant place exists in the ranks of our instructors, and a well-known face has faded forever from our ways. Entirely de- voted to his work for the very work'S. Sake, gwmg even the depart' ing days of his life to our instruction, Professor lohn. Short passed away from earth conscious of ao true and entire life s labor performed in but a brief share of the time usually allotted to man. We were fortunate in having the chair of Greek created during the year, and still more so in having called to it Professor Josiah R. Smith, whose years of careful study both here and abroad, have eminently fitted him 'for the position. On the other hand, Professor Wm. A. Mason, by virtue of a position better adapted to his work, has resigned from our Faculty. In him we lose a thorough gentleman and competent instructor. i A y Participating for the Hrst time in the State Oratorical Contest, and preceding that by a local contest, the interest in public speak- ing has assumed a position hithertofore unknown. The amount appropriated will it the new room handsomely, and purchase enough books for present use. Phe nucleus thus formed will beadded to from time to time.
