Class Prophecy By Bruce Bolenbaugh My mind whirled crazily as I struggled to regain consciousness. How had I gotten like this? Where was 17 Suddenly, I heiurd a calm voice reassuring me that everything was all right. Just as suddenly I recalled the whole thing: how I ' d volunteered to test Freez-sleep, how I ' d been prepared, then injected with the preservation which would suspend aging for 25 years. Now I was awake, like a 21st century Rip Van Winkle, and Just about as confused, I stayed for a week to recover from the sleep, and the director of the hospital came in. Suppose you ' ll want to look up some old friends of yours, won ' t you? Well, here ' s your file. Help yourself. And here ' s the money you deposited, and some new clothes. Call if you need me. Thanking him, I got in one of the hover-taxis waiting outside. A small sign on the inside of the taxi caught my eye: Serviced by Str awn-Pet itt- Tribolet Corp., 1011358. The doc had told me that all towns and cities were numbers now, not names. I was in 1011358, so I spoke the company name into the voice-guide mike, and arrived at the place in two shakes. I went in and saw Tom Chilcote, He hadn ' t changed a bit. I learned that the huge car service compsiny was indeed owned by Dean, Gene, and Gary, and that Tom was President of the largest bank in the city. He was picking up his hover car. He very graciously invited me to go see some other class members living in the city. I consented gladly. Tom said that business was booming, and the bank was going great, especially since Neila Prichard was comptroller. I learned that Ron Kline had gotten a large loan to expand his Ramex Plant in 2883588,

and that Chuck Blckle was a millionaire after having bought shares of the Laser-Communications stock while working servicing Ramex installations. I asked who led the country these days. He looked stunned. Why, Rick Rosendahl, didn ' t you - oh, that ' s right, you were asleep. He ' s been in office for 16 years. Presidents serve eight year terms now, he told me. Jerry Amweg is Vice-President, Dorothy Mathew is Treasurer, and Linda Simon is Secretary of State, first woman ever in the position. We were approaching a large white building right in the heart of the city. I guessed that it was a hospital. I was right. Tom informed me that Penney Couts was head nurse there, and that Billie Switzer held a similar position in 935872U General Hospital. I also learned that Mark Bolenbaugh was head Xray technician at 5387l»32 X-ray center. Inquiring about some other members, I found that Anna Ainsworth operated a day nursery for pre-schoolers. Annelle Doan was a sportscaster covering the games of the 1011358 Yankees. Mary Ina McConn I had also seen on the hospital vision plate: a great comedienne. Cindy Dull had made a small fortune marketing Cynthia Cosmetics. Charles Waterman was a well-known playboy millionaire. Arlene Witten was Home-Ec. Professor at 159883 ' University, and prepared teaching machine tapes for schools all over the country. Last, but not least, Josephine Delgado and Teresa Pina operated a plush salon in 239877 ' . I had found my class after 25 years, alive and prosperous. I thanked Tom for the ride, and got off at the hotel, thankful to be back in the world again.
