A-1: MR IA MES BUCHHOLTZ English MR. DAVID LEIENDECKER Mathematics and Science Senior Sponsor MISS EDNA SCHUMM Commercial Miss ALICE w1LLrAMsoN if Band and Chorus b MR. ROBERT LYBARGER Coach, Ind, Arts and Spanish MR. BYRON CHAPMAN Social Studies CLASS HISTORY We have been a most industrious but more, a fun loving class during these last four years of high school. We have gained and lost members through the years, but more remarkable about it is our strange ratio of boys to girls. It is 211, as it now stands. We started our freshman year with a total of twenty students. Don Army was a newcomer and Donna Straw bade us farewell to move to another town. Our class sponsor was Mr. Don Hadley. Our officers were: President, Jim Dullg Vice President, Walter Cramerg Secretary, Lucy Merkleg and Treasurer, Marilyn Stukey. As all greenies are, we were rather confused at first in our new environment, but we were rating to go when our sophomore year began. During our first two years, we lost Bill Boroff, Stanley Ayers, Tennyson Strawn, and Dick Ray. We gained another boy, Dick Prior, in our sophomore year. Our sponsor for our second year of high school was Coach Victor Mentley. Our officers were: President, Ronald Putmang Vice President, Walter Cramer, Secretary, Marcia Scheidt, and Treas- urer, Lucy Merkle. We began to realize the importance of money this year, and the necessity of cooperation in order to obtain it, and we point to an even greater year, as busy juniors. Our class sponsor this year was Mr. Chapman, whose advice and good ideas we were grateful to have. Our officers were: President, Walter Cramerg Vice President, Rodney Smithg Secretary, Marcia Scheidtg Treasurer, Jim Dull. This indeed was a busy time for us all. We chose our motto, What makes greatness is start- ing something that lives after you , our colors, lavender and white, and our flower, the beauti- ful yellow carnation. Our class play, a mystery-comedy entitled Murder Mansion , was fun for us to present, es- pecially under the direction of our talented director, Mr. James Buchholtz. Stairway to the Stars was the theme of our Junior-Senior Prom, We enjoyed arranging the banquet, its program, and the dance that followed in the beautifully decorated gymnasium. We worked hard to make our Prom a success, and we were proud of it, We discovered the wonderful feeling of achievement with the end of this year. Last of all, but not least, is the eventful senior year. Our sponsor, Mr. David Leiendecker, has given us helpful advice and encouragement, for which we are very grateful. Our class offi- cers: President, Ronald Putmang Vice President, Walter Cramerg Secretary, Marcia Scheidt and Treasurer, Londa Andrews are to be commended for the superior job of management and order- liness which they have done. Our class play presented April 5, was Alias the Butler under the direction of our sponsor, Mr. Leiendecker. We have busied ourselves with all the things seniors must play, among others, our graduation announcements, caps and gowns, and our class trip to New York. We are eagerly awaiting being entertained at the Junior-Senior Prom being prepared for us by the juniors. We hope they are having as much fun as we did in making last year's. One more member left us this year to serve in the Navy, We all wish the best of luck to Dick Prior. This, our last year of school, is the climax to our work and fun as a class. We would like to thank all who have contributed anything to our class and its success. I, Marilyn Stukey, the historian, am wishing all my classmates the best in everything to come, and good luck to all the lower classmen. dai?- -w'12effr 4.f:-if -ff. rr - ' 61' 'I ' . 1-4.7, ,g Q .,, ' '1 '!lY' A ' Q- 55- 'ffl ' f- ' NK 53,5 i g ? This document gives us the history of each of the class members that graduated from that school in 1956. The document was written by an eminent historian of that period, Connie Hoverman, who was a member of that class. Although the document was in poor condition, parts of it can be read. This was its contents: May 10, 2026 I, Connie Hoverman, being the last living member of the class of 1956, have decided to write down for posterity, what happened to my fellow classmates after our graduation. Ruth Rice became one of the most important newspaper editors of our time. She edited the 'New York Central', 'Van Wert Times-Bulletin', and the 'Ohio City Progress'. Two very famous musical celebrities came from my class. First, there was Marcia Scheidt who was a famous pianist. It is said that her fame was greater than that of Liberace. Marilyn Stukey be- came the most celebrated opera singer of all times. Ronald Putman was a very famous criminal lawyer. l-le was said to be another Perry Mason. Bruce Baker, or Judge Baker as he was known to many, became Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Rodney Smith, or Doc Smith, was a famous doctor. I-le was said to have saved the lives of many people. Londa Andrews was a great painter. She made millions with her paintings and was known as the second Grandma Moses. Jim Dull was known for his line of Dull's Grocery Markets, which have spread all over the United States. Gregg Gardner was famous for his line of Gardner Lumber Company Stores that are all over the world. Peter Witten achieved the highest position of this time. He was none other than the President of the United States. Mr. Witten was President for two terms. He chose two classmates to be members of his cabinet. David Bigham was his Secretary of Agriculture, and Dick Clouse his Secretary of War. Walter fOssJ Cramer was elected to the position of Governor of the State of Ohio. 'Oss' served in this position for two terms. Donald Cowgill became an important inventor. He invented many items that have helped the housewife. Among his inventions are an electric potato peeler, an automatic dish wiper and other useful items. Two members of my class were working on the campus of Ohio State. John Adelblue was the coach for the Ohio State Basketball Team, and Lucy Merkle was Dean of Women. Don Army discovered oil on his farm and became one of the multi-millionaires of this time.
