We struggled through the years losing old and gaining new mem- bers. In the fall of 1950, we entered our Freshman year, with 26 members. During this year we had three advisors, Mr. Jenkins, whom the Army took away from us, Mr. Green, and Mr. Troxial. The class chose Jerry White as President, Ellen Stump as Vice-President, Belle Bigham, Secretary, and Pat Brubaker, Treasurer. We lost Margaret Fenton and Roberta Long and gained Mary Adelblue and John Hoffman from Wren. Our Sophomore year we were under the leadership of Mr. Evans. This year we chose as our President, John Hoffman, with Marji Edwards as Vice- President, Connie Straw as Secretary, and Ellen Stump as Treasurer. Navy blue and white were chosen as our class colors, a red Carnation as our class flower, and as our motto we chose: If the elevator to success is not working, take the stairs . We lost Bob Long, Rolland Custer, and Ilo Woods this year. The year of 1952-53, one of our biggest, was next. Our sponsor, Mr. Lechleidner, helped direct our officers, who were: Charles Putman, Presi- dentg Ellen Stump, Vice-President, Connie Straw, Secretaryg and Pat Brubaker, Treasurer. Connie Straw moved to Brya.n. We also lost Jerry White and Mary Adelblue, but gained Bob Army from Lima. The Junior Class Play, The Calalnity Kids , was one of our first successes. Our next big achievement was the Junior-Senior Prom, with the theme-- Harbor Lights . Both of these events took a lot of team work and planning, and our class seemed to have enough of both. ln 1953, we entered our final year at dear old O, C. L. Under the sponsorship of Mr. Leiendecker, we chose Charles Putman as President, John Hoffman as Vice-President, Ellen Stump as Treasurer, Belle Bigham as Secretary, and Pat Brubaker as Annual Editor. Money-making projects throughout the years were: square dances, scrap drives, concessions, class plays, and chile suppers. Our twelve year sojourn at Ohio City-Liberty has been filled with many rich adventures and achievements, money-making projects and profitable learning situations, and now we are about to embark upon the greatest ad- venture of a1l-- LIFE ITSELF. For she is Annual Editor you see. She sure is swell and lots of fun, For a friend indeed she's just the one. Jim Ayers is one nice guy, He is never afraid to try, Most any work he does quite well, Everyone thinks that he is swell. Robert L. Army is next in line, Our class thinks that he is fine. He's lots of fun and good hearted too, We hate to lose him. Now wouldn't you? Next here comes our little Belle, What do you think? We think she's swell. As our secretary she is fine, She tries very hard to keep in line. Rhea Boroff so pretty and brown, You very seldom see her frown, She's one of the nicest girls in town, It's lots of fun to have her around. John Hoffman is a friend to all. He's really good at playing ball. He is really one swell guy, The navy will get him by and by. Happy-go-lucky all through the day, Ellen's sure to go far if she stays that way. She's lots of fun and I've heard folks say, She brings sunshine to a rainy day. Bill Stutz is real smart, He's been that way from the start, His main ambition is working on his car, As a mechanic he should go far. Barbara Jo is real sweet, She's one of the nicest girls you'll meet. The griefs of Totem Pole Editor she bears, Also the Annual troubles she shares. ,K- ....s.. :wx ...Q ,-n-Q ,-:c r' Q, aa. Sarah E. Beach is her name, But Sarah or Sally, she's still the same. By looking at Janice you can see, She's just as sweet as she can be. She's lots of fun and real sweet, The Senior Class sure thinks she's neat. Big Bob is a boy who is quite tall, They say he's really on the ball. He's lots of fun and witty too, He'll do the best he can for you. Charlie Putman so big and tall, Can really play good basketball. As president of our mighty team, This guy is really on the beam. Who's next, now let me see, Oh yes, who else but Lee. This Pontsler guy isn't bad, In fact he's really a good looking lad. Bob Williams, a farmer to be, He was good in Ag. you see. The job of farming he does enjoy We all agree that Bob's a fine boy. Tom Ainsworth is one swell guy, I bet he'll go far by and by. He is really good and kind, A harder worker you seldom find. Jack Tribolet that kid at the mill, A sack of feed he'll never spill. He'll be quite prosperous one happy day, We expect a great future for our Jackie Jay. Charles Rice just can't be beat, A nicer kid you seldom meet. He is friendly with everyone And of course he's lots of fun. My name is Marji Edwards, And I'm real small, But I wrote this poem, 'Cause I know 'em all. '45 S 5 a 2 . up ,A I cf , 5, X -,I HI.. The year was 1963 and after nine years I had become pretty lonesome for the place, so I went into a confectionary for some Ice Cream. I waited several minutes before getting waited on so I asked to see the manager, who to my astonishment was Bob Army. We had quite a little talk and I was on my way. 1 turned the corner onto Carmean Street where I saw a sign Ellen's Beauty Salon . I thought it would be a pretty good idea to get my hair set, since it was raining and my hair was straight, so I went in. The beautician was Ellen Stump and under one of the dryers was Rhea Boroff. Ilearned that Rhea was married and had three little girls and Ellen had two blonde boys. I also learned from them, that Pat Brubaker had four darling red heads. I got my hair fixed and started again. I hadn't gone far when I heard a siren, so I pulled over to the side of the road and found that it was the State Patrolman. I had been speeding. When the officer started writing out the ticket I thought I recognized him. When I asked his name, he said it was Bob Emerick. We chatted a while and I was off again. I turned the corner and started down the Wren road, when I saw a familiar looking man building ahouse. Idecided it was Jim Ayers so I stopped to talk with him. He said he was building this house for his new wife. Knowing Jim as I did, I wondered at him just now getting married. He explained that this was his 4th wife. After going home and visiting I decided to look up the whereabouts of some of my other classmates, since my husband was coming the next day by plane. I went to Van Wert and was walking down Main Street when I saw Sally Beach. She told me she was living in Celina. She told me that another of our classmates had made quite ashow for himself. It seems that Charles Putman, after six years of professional basketball, retired and is now serving his home town as Mayor. I also learned that Barb Brubaker was the new editor of the Times Bulletin. When I went down to see Barb, she told me our class was Q Q .3-I '9 J, ,' N G I 0 L' :S f x l Ili I '. Tom is now farm- ing 300 acres. I learned that they had already notified some of the more dis- tant people. Belle Bigham, who has been a missionary in Africa for the past nine years, wrote that fortunately, that was about the time she would be home on a vacation. They had planned the program and decided to have Reverend Robert Williams give devotions. Bob is now preaching in a new church near Rockford. Another of the more distant members of the class was John H. Hoffman of the U. S. Navy, who was stationed in Japan. He answered that he would be able to attend, he thought. Entertainment for the Picnic will be provided by Janice Morgan, who is teaching saxophone lessons in Lima. Our -speaker for the day will be the celebrity of the class, Lee Pontsler, who was voted the Most Handsome Farmer In The State Of Ohio We had already received word from Bill Stutz that he would fly in for the day from his large turkey farm in Wyoming. We were all sure Jack Tribolet would be there since he only lived a few miles away. He bought the Schumm Elevator and is now enla.rging it. We also received word that Charles Rice would be able to attend. He is now an Engineer on the Erie Railroad. I would still be here by this time because as I said, my husband was coming by plane to rest up from his strenuous work. Oh Yes! I fMarji Edwardsj a.m the owner of the largest cattle farm in the world, located, of course, in California. You can see from this that the individual members of the class of 1954 are all very prosperous. And I'll bet we have fun at that reunion, don't you? And do you know that while I was on my way home I noticed that even though the rain was still falling, the sky was clear and the sun seemed to be shining. I wonder why! ! He leads a twelve county district in points as well as the school. For several weeks he led the district with an average of 30.1 points per game. By scoring 36 points at the Van Del game, he broke the previous record of 32, set by Clarence Mottinger in 1953. ' We feel that he deserves this space in our Annual as well as our hearts to show our appreciation of his good sports- manship and outstanding record in the field of sports. The individual members of the class join in saying congratulations, and to wish him much success and happiness in the future.
