It was 1947, and Z8baseballfans were there, warming up for the great event. After the try-outs, we learned that although we had skill, we didn't have enough experience. So began our years of work to achieve Ex- perience and the great honor of being a member of the Major League. All 28 of us started our first year of work with Dick Busch and Gale Smith as our Managers, Our Coach was Miss Vera Dull. Unfortunately, a few of our members found the training rules too strict and we re forced to seek greener pastures. The second year only Z0 proved to have survived the first year. However, our goal seemed a little closer. This renewed our strength and we chose Lorna Agler and Dick Points as our Managers, Mrs. Helen Wurster was our Coach, This year, our third, we were deter- mined to prove we had Experience. We chose Charles Cramer and Gale Smith as our Manage rs, Miss Joyce Seve rn was our Coach. There were still Z0 of us seeking to be in the Major League. We gave a class play, I Wouldn't Know!, to gain money to continue our work. We continued to in- crease our treasury by other means. ln 18 May, 1950, we gave a banquet for ourpre- decessors who has already received honors in the Major League. At long last, in our fourth year, we decided we we re ready to again try-out for the Major League. After the try-outs we found that all 20 of us were acceptable. We were divided into 4 tearnsg the Braves, the Phillies, the Dodgers, and the Yankees. We chose Charles Cramer and Larry Kohn as our Managers. Again, Miss Joyce Seve rn consented to be our Coach. To help finance ourlast year, we had various pro- jects which helped bring in money. Finally, after much hard work, we have achieved Success. We have found that Success does not come easily, butnot one of us would exchange a minute of the time we have spent, We have found that most of the fun we have had come in working for Success, not in having gained it. We hope this wisdom will follow us through life so that we will always be working toward a goal. JY-I-ik ',. 'Mm 1 ' 7 ' ' ' ' r ssfxaf 45 s, i C I It at N -A U - 2- L ' ll' -2-E: :Q-is X' ' 'df CLASS PROPHECV It was a beautiful, sunshiny day! In fact, just the right kind of a day for baseball game. It was May 10, 1988. In the Green Grass Field Stadium in Ohio City, Ohio, 82, 500 fans were waiting for the game of the year to start. This game would determine the World Champion- ship. Suddenly, there arose a great cheer. The game between the Ohio City Fireballs and the Dulltown Crackers was about to begin. I found my seat and sat down. Then I happened to glance at the man who sat next to me, It was none other than the world famous comedian, James Rickard. He had just arrived in the United States from Hawaii where he had put on a 4 hour television show. I asked him if he knew of the whereabouts of any other members of our class. This is what I learned from him. It seems he had met Sharon Meeker, the famous dancer, in Hawaii. She is teaching the native girls a new dance called the Hula-Can-Can. Charles Cramer has won the re- putation in the movie world as the second Great Lover. Opal Taylor, Mary Boroff, Darlene Davis, and Betty Stutz have opened an Escort Bureau for Women in New York, When last heard of, they had already made SZ million. Dick Points and Larry Kohn are in Florida showing children from the ages of 3 to 4how to ride amotorcycle safely. Jane Anne Stemen is in Hollywood working for the Fashion Movie Picture Company. She makes toupees for the movie stars. Wilma Fickert also works for the Fashion Movie Picture Company. She is head of the Sound Effects Dept. It is rumored that she puts the smack in the kisses for this movie company. Jeanette Roller and Joanne Rickard have moved to Texas and have opened a cooking class to teach the boys in the Army how to prepare a home - cooked meal. Two at time, that is. Raymond Balliet went to the North Pole and is now assisting Santa Claus. As a sideline he owns a refrigerator store. He sells refrigerators to the Eskimos, Loma Agler is now the Superintendent of Nurses in a hospital in Toledo. Dorothy Jean Rice raises horses in California. She makes quite a profit selling them to the movie stars. That was all he could tell me but fortunately I knew where the rest of my class were. I asked him to look in the radio and television broadcasting box there at the Stadium. None other than Clarence Beach was there. He is now a famous sports commentator. As to the rest of the class, I have appointed Fred Wittung as Sec. of Agri- culture in the President's Cabinet. Dr. Gale Smith is also in the Cabinet as the new Secretary of Science. You see, I, Helen Shaw, have become the first woman President of the United States. I am writing this down so that all the country may know that the Ohio City- Liberty Class of 1951 is the only class in the whole world whose eve ry member is world famous in his own field. You know, it's funny, but I really don't know who won that baseball game between the Ohio City Fireballs and the Dulltown Cracke rs. I wonder why? I9 4 We, the class of nineteen-hundred and fifty-one find that we have a few mementoes of our days at OCL left over and do hereby bequeath the following: I Loma Agltr do hereby will my chewing gum to anyone who cansucceed in annoying as many teachers as I have and enjoy it as much as Ido and my position as Doc Cress sec- r Will And lestament X .f I l F i li ,l 'r V' l l 20 retary to anyone who is sucker enough to do it. Now the second year, we started out with 31. We lost Leland Brown but gained one when Charles Doan came. Our officers this year are Iris Baker, President, Marlene Wallace, Vice- Presidentg Rosalind Bigham, Secre- tary, Betty Brubaker, Treasurer, and again we have Mr. Fleck as our spon- sor. We chose our class colors, White and Wine, and the Wine ,Rose as our class flower. During the next two years we hope to gain what we are striving for. Graduation! We started our journey through high school with twenty-five eager freshmen. It wasn't long until one of our girls, Margaret Fenton, left us. We bade her farewell and she was off. A little later, we thought we saw something new and found that it was a new girl, Mary Mar- garet Adelblue, We were all sorry that our advisor, Mr. Jenkins, left us, but we got started again with Mr. Green as our advisor. Next we chose our leaders which were: Boss -- Jerry Whiteg Straw Boss -- Ellen Sturnpg Banker -- Patty Brubaker, Secretary -- Belle Bighamg Red Cross -- Rhea Boroff and Bill Stutzg and last and least Historians -- Roberta Long and Marji Edwards. Then came cheerleader try-outs. From the four girls who tried out, Roberta Long was chosen. And finally came the dreadful day of our initiation. Boy, were we scared! -- Nothing happened. Next was the election for carnival king and queen. Our candidates were Jerry White and Patty Brubaker. We were glad to hear that Patty was chosen queen for the carnival. So endsour first year. If Fate is kind, we will return next fall. FIRST ROW: June Carr, Marjiann Edwards, Bill Stutz, Charles Rice, Jack Tribolet, Lee Pontsler, Bob Williams, Belle Bigham. V-TEENS Teen Timers is our theme. The sym- bol is a clock. Our colors--royal and baby blue. We have strict regulations andasecretknock. We also have a secret sister who is called our Old Time Friend. Our officers are named after parts of the clock. The president, The Main Spring, is Loma Aglerg Joanne Wise is the vice-president or The Second Hand, Jeanette Roller is the so-called Minute Hand, as she keeps all our minutes recorded. Our Balance Wheel, is Jane Anne Stemen who counts our millions. Our Tick, Thelma Gephart, can really make it hum when she sits at our piano. Helen Shaw is the Tock, who sounds off when we want to sing. You hear all about our man parties and fun through the Alarm, Cllristine Pol- lak, The Dial gives us the vim and vigor to dance and sing--this is Marlene Wallace, when we are noisy we know we'll get silenced by the Silencer, Rosalind Bigham, We feel that we are very for- tunate to have Mrs. Wilbur Wise and Mrs. Donald Straw as our mother advisors al- though we call them The Stems. Big Ben's job is to hold it up and steer it clear of all ruts it might get ing that is just what Miss Severn, our swell advisor, has done for us. There are 41 girls in our club with almost 10070 attendance. We have a fine quintette, who entertained us on various occasions. We have entertained our mothers. We have sent money to CARE, given the first three grades a gra.nd Christmas part , provided the school with abeautiful Christmas tree, and done many other little things which we enjoyed. We hope that we have done our best in honoring God, our country, and our com- munityg in helping other girls and have been in all ways a loyal, true member of America. 1 I X' s ISI '- -Ji- l mfg I H., Y ' 5 IQg:f:f59.,- , ' 1112225 ',-' . ,g ,ussfingagolg iv v 'un ll LEE 1 x FIRST ROW: Rex Hurless, Dick Galloway, Deloyd Rickard, Charles Cramer, joe Heftel, Ned Scheidt, Jim Witten, Don Keber. Every year we have a Parent 8: Son Banquet which is always a big event. In 1947 we won a silver medal in par- liamentary procedure. In 1948 we won a silver medal in parliamentary procedure again and had two state farmers out of our chapter, Dallas High and Bob Galloway. In 1950 we won a silver medal in parliamentary procedure and plan to have a bigger and better Parent 8: Son Banquet. The officers this year are as follows: President -- Charles M. Jack Rolfes. Though he was new, he did a good job. In November at the Gpen House, the girls' chorus put on a rninstrel with several featured numbers from a few of the members of chorus. Plans were made to sing at the County Festival to be held at Union. This we did later in the year, It was thoroughly en- joyed by all. The chorus also performed at the District Contest. Most of our singing was done a cap- pella, which caused us to learn a lot about music which we didn't know before. BAND The Ohio City-Liberty Band, under the able direction of Mr. Jack Rolfes, has been very active. A new drum major, Connie Straw, was elected at the end of the school term of 1950. To start the year off with our new director, the band played at the Van Wert County Fair. The band participated in the Halloween Festival at Van Wert. We received first prize. The band also playedfor the festival and basketball games held at Ohio City. At the beginning of the school term, 1950-1951, officers were elected. We had our assembly on October 27th. Two movies were presented which all of us enjoyed very much. If, on a third Monday of every month at 12:20, you happen to see several energetic, noisy students in the commercial room, you will know it is just the members of the Junior Red Cross getting together for their monthly meeting.
