670144 cfvhafory On a September morning in 1946 thirty-one would-be run- ners decided to start the long preparation for the Marathon race to be held in 1950. As our captain we had Shirley Brand, and her co-captains were Patsy Rickard, Lola Eibling, and Pat Krugh. Our running team was trained by Mr. West, As part of our physical training we had a skating party. At the start of our second year we chose as captainShirley Brand and as co-captains, .Tay Dee Putrnan, Jack Priddy, Max Prichard, and Lola Eibling. As a feminine trainer we chose Mrs, Wurster, Deciding that roller skating would give us some of the needed exercise, we planned another skating party. To start the fund we would need in 1949 and 1950, we had a bake sale, and sold forget-me-nots. In the third lap of our preparation we chose as our captain, Maynard George. His co-captains were Lola Eibling, Phyllis Wallace, and Betty Brunni. Our trainer this year was Miss Severn. This year we also had another bake sale, sold forget- me-nots and had concessions to make our fund grow. We also gave a play, .Tust Ducky which aided our financial situation. In the spring we gave a big party for the Winners of '49. Several of our team thought the preparation too difficult and gave up. However, we gained one when Pat Brubaker come to join us. Now with twenty members of our team, we were ready for the Marathon of 1950. We had Corinthians, Athenians, Tro- jans, and Spartans to make a well-balanced and successful team. As our trainer we had Mr, Cress, and .Tay Dee Putman as captain. His co-captains were Max Prichard, Lola Mae Eibling, and Virginia Hertel. Patsy Rickard and Shirley Brand published a book on our activities and our successors. To help with our fund, we had two bake sales, a cookie sale, a cake raffle, a ham raffle, sold forget-me-nots, conces- sions, movies, and sold magazine subscriptions. After much hard work we had won the race, In honor of the victory, our competitors gave us a banquet. As one of the awards of our labor, we won a trip to Washington, D.C.
