In May. as skies began fo clear, we enferfained some fribes of friendly Indians who had helped us on our way. Yes, we have learned many lessons from fhe Indians. and warm skies above remind us fha? The quesf is yef ahead. And so-wifh renewed vigor on go fhe Forfy-Niners! Wifh 'rhe changing colors of fhe fall season, came also fhe lasf lap of our iourney fo fhe Wesf. Twenfy-six miners were all fhaf were leff of fhe original fhirfy-one, and fhese were defermined fo find fhe gold of California. New leaders: Dallas High, Presidenf: John Sigler, Vice-Presidenf: Joanne Sidle, Secre- fary: Ardyfh Prichard, Treasurer: Coral Taylor, Annual Edifor: Pearl Bolen- baugh, News Reporfer: and Carolyn Agler, l-lisforian. The expedifion sfopped fo fill fhe wafer barrels af an oasis and were enferfained by one of fhe following caravans, who were following us. On and on and fhen California! This Time iT is To search Tor and discover The G-reaT ATomic Power. This power, ThaT can be obTained only in The warm, dry cIimaTe oT CaIiTornia, is so powerTul ThaT you can Turn nighT inTo day. The 49ers Took oTT The day aTTer They received Their diplomas Trom The greaTesT school ThaT ever exisTed. For Traveling, insTead oT covered wagons: They piled inTo The new STudebaker Truck ThaT Dallas had so nicely covered Tor The Trip. IT was a wee biT crowded wiTh The bunch oT 26 in iT buT They man- aged because-as The Tale goes-some oT Them never saw Caliliornia. My, my, before They had crossed The sTaTe bor- der They were aTTacked by a bunch oT unhosTile miners who said The 49ers had previously been uniusT wiTh Them and They could hardly deTray ex- penses on The super prom They had given Them. Those poor Juniors! We gave Them our sympaThy and moved on. California, here we come!!! Dallas was cauTioned noT To drive so TasT, buT you know Dallas. When They hiT The sTaTe border a Tew oT The passengers were Thrown over board. When They goT sTopped abouT a mile laTer and Turned around To pick Them up, They discovered ThaT There were only Three Thrown ouT. One, Mary MoTTinger, said she had changed her mind abouT going: she was going back and live ouT a guieT, peaceTul mar- ried liTe wiTh WiIberT. Coral Taylor, anoTher, said 26 she had promised her dad To be aT work aT 5:00 o'clock and she musT geT back. They all knew, Though, iT was Markie and noT her work she loved ThaT well. The only one To geT hurT ouT oT The Three was Olie STemen. They Told him To jump in and They'd Tix him up on The way, buT he reliused, re- membering ThaT he had a daTe Tor eighT wiTh Lola ThaT he iusT couldn'T break. So They wished The Three much happiness and luck and proceeded wesT- ward wiThouT Them. IT was less crowded now. As The mighTy deTermined gang enTered FT. Wayne and was passing Bell's Rink, Jayne Blush and Boo- gie Woods noTiced Two very Tamiliar cars siTTing in The parking loT. They iusT happened To have Their skaTes along so They blew The emergency horn and Dallas sTopped. Well, There wenT Two more. Jayne and Boogie decided They were going To skaTe Through IiTe wiTh Dale and Chewy. So aTTer a very sad and sobby Tarewell The caravan progressed a Ii+TIe TarTher. They IosT Their blue eyed blonde. Genevieve Taylor, aT lnTernaTional College in FT. Wayne where she was going To TurTher her educa- Tion in shorThand. Dallas should have kepT on The Trail and never wenT pasT Zollner STadium. Diddle Brown .iusT couldn'T pass up ThaT conTracT wiTh The PisTons. I-lis Tellow 49ers were all mighTy proud oT him and PaT I-Iigh was iusT Too, Too, proud Too.
