THE FIRST DOOR 15 marked freshman year
Our troubles began 2x plus Yay equaled 17 LatIn
IS a dead language Why was ll revIved' There
was the class meetIng In whIch we peacefully after
weeks of hagglmg chose our class colors red and
vshIte Then the battle was on agaIn Hats thIs
tIme We Introduced farIgue hats Into the halls of
OH S on Frosh Day
IN OUR SOPI-IOMORE YEAR we were snll strug
glIng Wllh LatIn but no longer concerned wIth
why 2x plus gy equaled 17 Remember the 49 ers
ate the refreshments at our sophomore ChrIstmas
Party? Remember that bIology trIp to Columbus7
It was the fIrst tIme any of us had ever been Instde
the OhIo State MedIcal Museum Remember our
LatIn term papers? No one ileast of all Mrs Kellyj
wIll ever forger them For the fIrst tIme we found
out the true meanrng of the term burnmg the
IN OUR JUNIOR YEAR two famIlIar faces were
mIssIng Mr Alter and Mrs Kelly We gave the
SadIe Hawkms Dance a welcome change from
Macbeth and French verbs We changed the
class rmgs qlllfe a feat SIDCC OberlIn HIgh School
had had the same class rIngs for seventeen years
We broke the long estabhshed tradItIon of havmg
a tumor carnIval however we made enough money
from sellIng refreshments at the games to fInance
our 1unIor senIor prom Instead of havmg the
tradItIonal sprIng theme for our prom we had an
HHWHIIHH theme Only flve Iumor gIrls were 101
tIated Into FIne Arts They wont forget that pIg
pen at Mannss farm those tradxttonal blue pI1ls or
the week end IU Toledo That year If seemed really
wonderful to dance at after game dances to musIc
by a real band
REMLMBLR THE PRAc1IcAI joke on Mr Fan
chIld at our class ptcnlc' He got really p Ile when
he though Loretta had drowned Two of the most
Important decIsIons of the year were made at thc
pIcnIc We elected Sxm Petroff SCIIIOI' clIss pres:
dent and those our cl Iss swetters
BY THE TIME we reached the door marked
senIor year our key was worn smooth As we
assembled In 305 on September 6 we were shocked
at the smallness of our group From our freshman
class of sIxty tvso we had dwIndled to a senIor class
of forty two a ratIo of 2 5 gxrls to every boy A
we sud before the doors to success do not open
OUR FIRST SOCIAL EVENT of our senIor year
was an October trIp to Mohtcan State Park a trIp
made possIble because Mr Gamble took us In the
ChIldrens Home Bus Remember the array of
color and Mr Campbell s and Fred Owens VOICCS
as they harmonIzed9
IN OCTOBER we began worklng on the annual
We sent the last pages to the engravers the second
week In March Then everyone gave a deep srgh
of relIef and really began studymg agaIn Other than
takmg tests all kInds of these VOCHIIOHHI aptI
tude psychologlcal and IQ we spent most of our
tIme on Hamlet
THERE WERE CHANGES made around OHS
that ye Ir The 3LldlIOI'lUfl'l was converted IDIO a
study hall and lunch room Any mother who
thInks her johnny eats all hlS lunch should look
ll the dllLllE0l'1LlITl floor any tIme after noon The
1udItorIum for the fIrst tIme In the school s hIstory
became .I dance hall A new subyect was also In
troduced In our senIor year drlvers trammg
WVHO WILL FORGET all the fun we had rehears
Ing our senIor play' PossIbly Mrs Fowls would
use a dIfferent word from fun
WE WONT FORGET that Mrs Hannon has
hell ed us to learn to oIl a lock wIth hard work
when out key would not open the door
WF Nom FIND ourselves at a fIfth door The
key also turns hard here perhaps because what
lIes beyond IS more hazardous and frtghtenlng than
my thmg vue have ever before encountered Be
fore us IIC responsIbIlItIes and decIsIons that ordI
narlly rest upon the shoulders of adults We have
overcom obstacles no matter how great In the
past and we have f'llIlI that God wIll help us In
the present Ind the future
