Semors Through the Years BEFORE THE CLASS OF 51 leaves OberlIn I-hgh School we are goIng to use our key to success THE FIRST DOOR 15 marked freshman year Our troubles began 2x plus Yay equaled 17 LatIn IS a dead language Why was ll revIved' There was the class meetIng In whIch we peacefully after weeks of hagglmg chose our class colors red and vshIte Then the battle was on agaIn Hats thIs tIme We Introduced farIgue hats Into the halls of OH S on Frosh Day IN OUR SOPI-IOMORE YEAR we were snll strug glIng Wllh LatIn but no longer concerned wIth why 2x plus gy equaled 17 Remember the 49 ers ate the refreshments at our sophomore ChrIstmas Party? Remember that bIology trIp to Columbus7 It was the fIrst tIme any of us had ever been Instde the OhIo State MedIcal Museum Remember our LatIn term papers? No one ileast of all Mrs Kellyj wIll ever forger them For the fIrst tIme we found out the true meanrng of the term burnmg the mldnlght 011 IN OUR JUNIOR YEAR two famIlIar faces were mIssIng Mr Alter and Mrs Kelly We gave the SadIe Hawkms Dance a welcome change from Macbeth and French verbs We changed the class rmgs qlllfe a feat SIDCC OberlIn HIgh School had had the same class rIngs for seventeen years We broke the long estabhshed tradItIon of havmg a tumor carnIval however we made enough money from sellIng refreshments at the games to fInance our 1unIor senIor prom Instead of havmg the tradItIonal sprIng theme for our prom we had an HHWHIIHH theme Only flve Iumor gIrls were 101 tIated Into FIne Arts They wont forget that pIg pen at Mannss farm those tradxttonal blue pI1ls or the week end IU Toledo That year If seemed really wonderful to dance at after game dances to musIc by a real band REMLMBLR THE PRAc1IcAI joke on Mr Fan chIld at our class ptcnlc' He got really p Ile when he though Loretta had drowned Two of the most Important decIsIons of the year were made at thc pIcnIc We elected Sxm Petroff SCIIIOI' clIss pres: dent and those our cl Iss swetters H0 BY THE TIME we reached the door marked senIor year our key was worn smooth As we assembled In 305 on September 6 we were shocked at the smallness of our group From our freshman class of sIxty tvso we had dwIndled to a senIor class of forty two a ratIo of 2 5 gxrls to every boy A we sud before the doors to success do not open easIly OUR FIRST SOCIAL EVENT of our senIor year was an October trIp to Mohtcan State Park a trIp made possIble because Mr Gamble took us In the ChIldrens Home Bus Remember the array of color and Mr Campbell s and Fred Owens VOICCS as they harmonIzed9 IN OCTOBER we began worklng on the annual We sent the last pages to the engravers the second week In March Then everyone gave a deep srgh of relIef and really began studymg agaIn Other than takmg tests all kInds of these VOCHIIOHHI aptI tude psychologlcal and IQ we spent most of our tIme on Hamlet THERE WERE CHANGES made around OHS that ye Ir The 3LldlIOI'lUfl'l was converted IDIO a study hall and lunch room Any mother who thInks her johnny eats all hlS lunch should look ll the dllLllE0l'1LlITl floor any tIme after noon The 1udItorIum for the fIrst tIme In the school s hIstory became .I dance hall A new subyect was also In troduced In our senIor year drlvers trammg WVHO WILL FORGET all the fun we had rehears Ing our senIor play' PossIbly Mrs Fowls would use a dIfferent word from fun WE WONT FORGET that Mrs Hannon has hell ed us to learn to oIl a lock wIth hard work when out key would not open the door WF Nom FIND ourselves at a fIfth door The key also turns hard here perhaps because what lIes beyond IS more hazardous and frtghtenlng than my thmg vue have ever before encountered Be fore us IIC responsIbIlItIes and decIsIons that ordI narlly rest upon the shoulders of adults We have overcom obstacles no matter how great In the past and we have f'llIlI that God wIll help us In the present Ind the future 0 , . . . .I II I.
