C J QJJQII F19 OR EIGHTEEN YEARS Professor Don Morrison h ts devoted great time and effort tow 1rd making Oberlin High School s band and orchestra fine musrcal organizations The malorette groups originated and developed by Mr Morrison lnve become an estlblished ptrt of the marching band His books concerning mxrching and mayor ettmg have been popular in this country and abroad His blton classes have givcn girls of ill lges a chince to enjoy the twirling md dlncing routines of the malorettes The basis of the orchestra string section hrs long been his morning classes Always given mtny their first instruction md experience in conducting I-Irs supervisions in our school ended with his retirement at the end of the frrst semester of this year In these brief lines, the students of Oberlin High School, especrllly those who hlve hld the opportunity of working under his super vision, express to him their deepest appreciation 1nd their sincerest th lnks for his constint guidance md IITSPIFIIIOH 3232323 232323 Starting ruth the fall footbill serson, the band under the direction of Mr Duid Plink and Mr Morrison performed in some entertunrng half time programs The trun ind bubble pipe formlnons will long be remembered rlso who could forget the tricky dincc and tmrling routines worked out by the ITIIIOFLIILSA During the winter the bind played tt some of the blsketbrll grmes PSI In its concert repertoire, the band enyoyed play ing many types of numbers The modern Two Moods Overture by Clare E Grundman the harmonicllly appealing In a Monastery Garden by Ketelbey and the ever popular Stars and Stripes Forever by Sousa were all favorites Mr Plank began orchestra rehearsals at the end of marching season The organization was first helrd in a Christmas program put on in collabora tion with the various vocal groups Orchestra members found the problems of such numbers as Roses Our Waltz Cadman s Festrval March, ind I-Iolsts Suite in E Flat perplexing indeed but well worth the time and effort spent on them Vocal music was very popular this year Boys Glee Club Boys Fnsemble Girls Ensemble, and Mrxed Chorus 111 under the direction of Mr Pl :nk ind the Girls Glee Club under the super vision of Miss Madgsick were all well supported by the school Both ensembles and many soloists in thc annual spring music contests for high school musici ms The Girls Glee Club enloyed among its concert numbers The Bees, Pirate Dreams, and Ave M1r11 The blnd and orchestra, long dormant in the field of social activities, presented a party for its members 1nd their guests rn February A rather hefty Barbershop Quartet composed of Reita Colc, Liurene Fowler Helen Haugh, and Mari anne Birbor, supplied a few choice numbers Gnmes and dancing were also enloyed by the group As 1 climax to the yeirs work, the ennre music department combined to give two spring concerts In April band Mixed Chorus, Boys Glee Club, and Boys Lnsemble presented ln equllly pleasing per form lnce -G. irfijyri y 1 .
