lr ul-gr 19 Hugh Annual 1931 Uhr Behav Seaman Oberlin High enlowed a werw successful season in debate this wear, and the school can justlw be proud of the creditable record made bw its debaters Oberlin s forensic season was 1 rather extenslwe one this wear and cowered the manw weeks of busw actiwltw between anuarw ninth and April twentw second 'Uanw weeks of diligent labor preceded the opening, debate with Paineswille on anuarw ninth How O H S successfullw triumphed in sw straight wictorles to win the championship of the northeist district IS a matter of gratltwlng memorw Oberlin continued its debating into the State finals dropping out it the point where there were just eight teams left from the II5 that origlnallw entered this ls the furthest in Oberlm team has ewer gone in the State contests lhe team thxt eliminated Oberlin was Rawenna and we can realize the evtraordmarw good performance of our debaters ln view of the fact that Rawenna won the State championship in the final debate' During the course of the wear Oberlin debaters were in fourteen clashes many of them dual debates with the following high schools in northern Ohio Pamesville, Hudson Parma, Brooklwn Heights Haw Yillage l'lwr1a VVadsworth VV1llard and Ravenna Of the fourteen debates, Oberlin won eight, lost fiwe and one was non decision Besides these debates, an intra squad debate was held before the Oberlin Business Nlen s Club earlw in the season as follows Negative team Dorothw Zimmerman Robert lrufant, lxenneth Gawer, Captalnl Affirmatiwe team oe lNas1pak Gertrude Limmerman, Nlartm Rogers, Clptam Graduation this wear takes fiwe of these capable speakers from the portals of O H S Dorothw Zimmerman will be the onlw weteran back next wear when Oberlm again takes up its forensic march It will be difficult indeed to fmd a pair of able captains and competent speakers to fill the places left bw Ixenneth and lXIart1n, with two wears of experience these orators formed the bulw ark of the Oberlin teams this wear Starting out as new timber, Robert Gertrude, and oe deweloped into sea soned speakers and prowed of great walue to Oberlms debate squad, but O H S also loses these three speakers bw graduation Dorothw Zimmerman, the one veteran to be back next wear will be a waluable asset to Oberlin debating activities with a wears experience behind her Phe debaters this wear were capablw coached bw bliss NIcCaw and Ur Alter and with both coaches coming back Oberlm looks with optimism toward another good wear rl he deb ttlng teams w ere the Guests of Xlr Rlwdon at a dinner held ln their honor Xlaw sixth This occasion fittinglw culminated a werw happw and successful wear for the deb lters of O H S Page immig nine I '- ' 0 Fw 1 4.
