When southern laughter 'mingles with a Texan drawl, when a midwestern tang debates a New York nasal, when all are at one table eating Saga food: this is identity with Oberlin. Adjustment to a new educational experience, the pheriomena of a world dominated by youth and learning. The freshman rushes through orientation 3. little breathless, overwhelmed by the newness, the dizziness of pace. But names begin to pair with faces; from new friendships emerge the fulfillment of identity with each other and with Oberlin. 20 The focus on a flying ball, the spirit of a team brings unity in a common purpose, and insecurity is lost.
