Among the lasting treasures is the cherished memory of some influential teacher. These cherished memories are as enduring as time. When we think of such a teacher, we think of one possessing all the virtues of a noble character. For this reason, we pause here on these pages to pay tribute to a member of our faculty who exemplifies the sterling qualities of a Christlike character. Scholarly dignity is inherent in his noble stature. In the classroom, he is a dynamo of enthusiasm. In public relations, he is a monument of dedicated service. In the home, he is the symbol of love and manly virtue. To you, Dr. Frank W. Hale, we affectionately dedicate this volume to express our gratitude for the contribution you have made in making our lives richer. Outstanding leadership in the Sabbath School, superb instruction in psychology, education, and aft classes, and capable co-ordination of student activities are only small indications as to his full contribution, cheerful friendliness, eagerness to help, and never- failing capability, efficiency, and human warmth are inadequate terms to reveal his life fully. Though the world may never know him, and though the great may never recognize him, those who know, love, and respect him as we do can never forget him. It is with deepest appreciation that we, the student body, dedicate the 1958 Acorn to MR. GAINES R. PARTRIDGE. ADMINISTRATION A '- Di Q ,f -22 U. x s The personal interest in their work, training, capability, and hard work of our very fine staff and administration explain the tremendous success of our educational program here at Oakwood College. During helpful counseling sessions, enjoyable class periods, friendly personal contacts, and invigorating labor activi- ties we have come to know and love those who constitute our ADMINIS- TRATON. 0Bakfunuh fgullege Qgfficz af the Qgreaihtni gammal., germ PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE The rushing days of 1958-59 have brought modern Oakwoodites a variety of joyous experiences. As we look back over the year, our minds dwell on the classes, the programs, the awards, chapels, and social activities. The achievement of regional accreditation brought great satisfaction to all. Memories merge in a panorama of many thrilling things--vespers, weeks of prayer, friendships formed, problems solved, impressions deeply grooved. Fortunate are those students who sought to make their student life as perfect as possible, and commendably wise are they who intelligently coordinated their million mental snapshots of the swift moving semesters. The objective of the round of activities is a rooting in truth, a growth in culture, and a preparation for service. Like the 136 half-ton bolts which firmly fix the fifty-story towers of the mighty Mackinac Bridge, may each day, class, and experience of this academic year serve to anchor you in the principles of enduring truth. 10 ef? a QQ Wm ., .1 Qi' ..,,. . mg, 4. -W... One inspired educator has succinctly stated that true education embraces physical, mental, and moral training, in order that all the powers shall be fitted for the best de- velopment to do service for God, and to work for the uplifting of humanity. From its very beginning, Oakwood College Academy has subscribed to this philos- ophy of Christian Education, the implementation of which is designed to meet the needs of youth in an ever changing world. To all youth who are desirous of securing an education which will prepare them both for joy of service in this world, and for the higher joy of wide service in the world to come, Oakwood College Academy extends a cordial welcome. To the Academy graduate of 1958, your staff and administration bids you a fond farewell. As you leave your Alma Mater, we trust that your lives may be both an un- folding of the principles of True Education, and may you continually grow in wisdom, and in favor with God and man. ' J. T.
