OUT OF THE COMMONPLACE The Class of '49 flings its challenge, Out of the Commonplacef' to the Advent World. In this fast changing age, restless with activity, bristling with extraordinary devices, and befuddled with new ideas and philosophies, it is very easy for traditional Americanism to be pushed into the realm of the commonplace . Often, in keeping pace with this striding world, the fundamentals and the framework for our spiritual advancement are shelved. In this breakneck pace we have raced headlong into a push-button world, void of our fundamental be- liefs. Everything not scientific is relegated to the commonplace. To- day, the world has reached a position where science and human inge- nuity have brought it face to face with despotism. Where can one turn? Who has the answer? What has happened to this, our civil- ized world? Through prophetic eyes let us pierce the dark clouds of despair and hopelessness, looking beyond the mountains of difficulties, beyond the rivers -of sin, and let us vision our eternal hope, the paradise that we have been anxiously awaiting. Think of stepping on shore and finding it Heaveng of taking hold of a hand and finding it God's hand: of breathing new air and finding it celestial airg of feeling invigorated and finding immortalityg of passing from storm and tempest to an un- known calmg of waking up and finding it Home! Such is the goal of the class of '49, Our sights are set, our aim is true, the trigger is cocked, and we are ready for the firing line of life. We shall run and not be wearyg we shall walk and not faint. Through the aid of the Spirit of God we shall not only come out of the commonplace ourselves, but we shall lift the world with us. -Clinton Warren.
