SENIOR PROPHECY The date is May 20 1979 Time 8 O5 A M This is Oakland I m a cop I work here It is a foggy morning and I am patrolling the west end of Oakland with my deputy sheriff Maurice Davis All of a sudden two roaring hot rods squeal around the corner It 15 Max Hanner and Calvin Taylor playing bumpertag They roar past us so we give up the chase before rt starts As we drive to our headquarters we see the Grand Opening of Evelyn Shaw s Style Shop There is a large crowd gathering so we decided to stop The time is now 8 30 A M Evelyn has several models working for her They include Barbara McQueen modeling a Peute Girdle Kay Dick wearing a one piece bathing suit and several saleswomen Vrrgrnra Stewart who IS now Mrs Dollar and Sharon Duzan who IS now the happy mother of 8 Our next stop IS the grocery owned and operated by Harold Ranktns and his wife the former Phyllis Clapp He tells us that Mike Cravens Truckmg Lines bring 1n a large supply of food every day and that busmess has never been better At 11 30 A M we decided to stop by and see how our old buddies are doing in the Used Car business Their business IS known as Ron and B111 s Sales and Service Mr Ziegler and Mr Fleming explarn that they have two mechantcs on duty day and night As we examine the shop we see the ace mechanic Larry Wendel ad1ust1ng the turbine of the turbo Jet engine in Turnipseed He also is a handyman who installs H1 F1 sets in bicycles The time is now a little after 12 00 and time to eat at our favorite restaurant Read s Snappy Service owned and operated by Jack Read His head waitress is Miss Mary Staggs After a fine meal we congratulated the chief cooks V1rg1n1a Coon and Hazel Fansler for such a good meal As we are leaving who should walk in but David Armstrong the courttng sensation of the 20th Century with Dor1s Jordan the dancing star of MGM Our next stop takes us to the home of B111 Boyer formerly remembered as Wilt the Stilt and his wife the former Audrey Halsey Also visiting IS B111 s professional coach Leon Krttle After a long VISII we decided to search for our remaining friends By now tt lS time for supper so we travel to the farm of B111 Farthing and Francts Plerson who are joint owners 1n a 1000 acre estate We are served a turkey dinner by Ne11Warmouth Also present is B111 s france Sierra DAVIS a chemistry teacher in Oakland After supper we make our final stop at the night club owned and operated by Bob Bunten When we enter at once we recognize who is on stage none other than Diane Hanner and Donna Dollar perform ing as the Twinkel Toe Girls After an enjoyable evening we leave happy and certain that the class of 59 is doing just fine BY Danny Allen Jim Taber Compliments of MATTOON ASSOCIATION OF COMMr:RCE Mattoon. 1111no1s . . . . , U- , . - . . . . . his privately owned '51 Ford.
