Senior emories By Jan Self and Bob Kline We, as high seniors, are iusf fhree shorf years away from 'rhe unimporfanf liffle L-l0's who sfood around fhe halls of Oakland High, bewildered and puzzled, awed af fhe immensify and perplexify of fhis insfifu- lion. ln realify, if was a shorf fime ago alfhough if seemed like we would never reach fhe Throne of Seniorism. Now fhaf we are placed in fhis exalfed posifion, if is good fo recall some of fhe imporfanf evenfs fhaf marked our mefamorphosis. lf doesn'l' seem so long ago fhaf we became ac- quainfed wilh our new counselor, Mr. W. Bayard Buckham and many of our new feachers. As low soph- omores, we became familiar wifh our grade clubs, Amicae and Vagabonds. Our firsf ioinf acfivify for fhe ferm was a swimming parfy af Dimond Pool fol- lowed by a barbecue af Barbara Anderson's house. By lhe fime we became so homores, we felf righf al home af Oakland High. Tcis ferm Bruce Horwifz was elecied as presidenf. His officers were Audrey Wrighl, Joy Bulfinch, Barbara Baylis and Bob Bills. Barbara Anderson was Amicae presiclenf, Marlene McConaughy wrofc fhe minules and Adrianne Gus- fafson wafched lhe money. The Poodle Prance was fhe firsf dance fhaf our advenfurous class presenfed. Bob Groffkau was fhe only H-I0 fo make fhe varsify foofball feam. During fhis lerm, Dave Young, John Fonfanof and Bruce Dodson made All-Cily wresfling. Warren Johnson was elecfed presidenf of our L-ll class. Helping him were Sonya Bofla, Barbara Ander- son, Bob Bills, Adrianne Gusfafson, Bruce Horwifz, Audrey Wrighf, and Marlene McConaughy. Warren Johnson ran and was elecfed fo fhe office of Chief Jusfice. On Ocfober 30, I953, 'lhe class of January, l955 presenfed Bewifched, fheir Junior Prom. Cindy Gill and Roger Marfin were fhe general chairmen of fhe affair. lf was elecfion fime again, and Jim Sfewarf was elecfed H-ll class presidenf. His officers were Mar- lene McConaughy, Barbara Baylis, Bob Monfgomery, Cindy Gill, Roger Marfin, Paf Hursf, Joan Michaels and Bob Bills. Sonya Boffa was elecfed Amicae presi- denf and Jim Kindorf was presidenf of Vagabonds. During fhis ferm, Bob Groffkau, Don Bryanf, Warren Johnson, Bob Kline, Will Pearce and Bob Bills made varsify foofball. Dick Lee, Wayne Olson, Bob Groff- kau, Bob Liles and Bob Kline were on fhe varsify casaba feam. Wayne Olson made honorable menfion for fhe All-Cify feam. As low seniors we once again had elecfions wifh Sonya Boffa winning for presidenfg Joan Michaels, vice-presidenfg Diana Thomas, secrefaryg Margaref McCufchen, freasurerg Jan Self, Bruce Horwifz, social chairmen, and Theresa Soefen, class hisforian. Mar- lene McConaughy served as presidenf of Amicae and Dave Young as presidenf of Vagabonds. Class sfudenf body officers were Cindy Gill, commissioner of social affairs, Bev Frandsen, commissioner of assemblies: Bob Bills, commissioner of buildings and grounds, and Barbara Anderson, commissioner of girls' affairs. Class execufive board members were Warren Johnson, Pai Hursf and Bob Monfgomery. Soon affer school sfarfed, fhe class of January, l955 presenfed ifs Senior Sfomp, Bal des Arfisfes. Jackie Marshall pla ed in fhe ferm play, Pink Magic, Roger Marfin led fhe dance band and Bob Groffkau was elecfed presidenf of Troian Hi-Y. Af lasf fhe greaf momenf had arrived! We had be- come high seniors. Our firsf-half class officers were Jackie Marshall, presidenfg Bob Kline, vice-presidenf: Margaref McCufchen, secrefary: Ron Banks, freas- urerg Barbara Flefcher, hisforiang and Margie Sarella, yell leader. Second-half officers were Warren Johnson, resi- denfg Jim Kindorf, vice-presidenf: Joan MicBaels, secrefaryg Jan Self, freasurerg Barbara Ba lis, his- forian, and Celia Samaras, yell leader. Presiding over the Amicae and Vagabonds meefings were Barbara Taylor and John Evans. Their officers were Theresa Soefen, Jan Self, Al Fifz africk, Bob Kline, Warren Johnson, Sonya Boffa ancf,Margaref McCufchen. On fhe sfudenf cabinef, Bob Bills served as presidenfg Rosemary Thorne, vice-presidenf: Barbara Anderson secrefaryg Audrey Wrighf, commissioner of girls' af- fairs: Cindy Gill, commissioner of clubs: Bev Frandsen commissioner of social affairs: Roger Marfin, com- missioner of public relafions, and Bob Monfgomery, yell leader. The firsf big evenf of our high senior ferm was fhe senior picnic. If was held af Marsh -Creek where a good fime was had by all. Joyce Mardon was in charge of arrangemenfs. Nexf was our senior dinner, Maxim's Rue Royale. The general chairmen of fhis affair were Joyce Mardon and Diane Thomas. Affer dinner enferfainmenf was furnished by Bev Frandsen, Margie Sarella, Dorrie Foley, John Evans, Sonya Boffa, Bob Kline, Pai' Goffschalk, Jack Harfneff, Roger Mar- fin, George Lovfang, Sharon Minson, Valorie Vander. veen and Lois Auclair.
