en ee ; tent Senior Class History It was one bright sunny morning in the year of nine- teen hundred twenty when sixty-four weary yet ambitious pilgrins worked their way up the Courthouse Hill on their wey tc the Land of Promise. After reaching the top of the hijl we proceeded along Green Street tc the Palace of Eéucation; well known to us as Oakland High School, Upon entering the door, we gazed around, While standing thus eutranced, a tall dark-haired gentlemen, who was later known as Professor Kolb; came into our midst and directed us to our Class Room. The first procedure was to separate the sheep from the goats, and we were informed that hereaftsr the sheep would enter the building by the front way, the goats by — the siie ertrance, This day was the beginning of a long, tedious; scul- wrecking journey which lasted tor nine months; during which time our ranks were depletei. A : total of tweniuy-six left us to ssek other fertunes in dis- tant lands. One of this group lingered on the harbor of matrimouy and sailed away on the ship of Love. Others of these became involved in the dizzy swirl of the business world, The remainder took the position of being as much like the idle rich as possible. After this gruesome period our litgle band stood again on the threshold of the High School Building under the nomenclature of the cheeky Sophs. Our valiant group was increased at this time through the entrance of Francis Grubbs. Then during this year came the crash with the puzzles of Geometry, the perplexity of Physics and the intricacy of English, and Manual Train- ing. During this year we gained a trifle more liberty in performing our school duties. We were granted the privi- lege of electing our officers and to engage in the social part of school more than when we were Freshmen. There being a small number of boys in our class, we managed to place one of our men on the Soccer Team and several more on the Track. At the beginning of our third year as usual we had te give up some of our former classmates to other envi- ronnents, for different reasons, On the seconi day we entered upon a new course of life. In the Commercial Department we were confronted with serious probdiems such as Typewri ing; Shorthand; and Bookkeeping. In the Aca- demie Departzent we met such obstacles as translating French and Latin and learning how to study History.
