On SaTurday, November 2, I957, The ciTizens oT Oak Park and River ForesT voTed YES Tor The School Bond issue. The six-To-one voTe indicaTed ThaT The people oT The communiTy ThoughT ThaT iT was Time To rebuild The lXlorTh Wing oT The school as a parT oT a program oT modernizaTion. Work on The NorTh Wing was scheduled To sTarT on The TirsT oT lvlay, I958, buT was acTually begun early so ThaT The building could be compleTed as soon as possible. On May TirsT The lunchroom was closed unTil The nexT Thanks- giving, and The audiTorium and The TronT lawn became Temporary lunchrooms. When school opened in SepTember, I958, The library had been moved across The sTreeT To Temporary guarTers in a house owned by The school, and new classrooms were ready where The library had been. Also, The doors oT The old library had become The doors oT a new conTerence room. ln TacT, all evidence oT The old library was gone. . . . in fAe nor-fA wing . . . The TronT oTTices were made aTTracf Tive and TuncTional in I949-50. Remodeling oT The audi- Torium was achieved in l95O-5l . Two years laTer in IQ53-54 The Boys' Fieldhouse had iTs Turn aT improvemenT. The heaTing and venTilaTing planT was recondiTioned in l955- 56. NexT year, in l956-57, The Girls' Gym was modernized, and ThaT was The sTep beTore The Big STep oT rebuilding The INlorTh Wing, which required The passing oT a Bond Issue Tor Two million dollars. The NorTh Wing does noT represenT The end oT moderni zaTion aT The school, however. Even aT The DedicaTion cere- mony new needs were menTioned. Truly, To remain greaT, a school musT always move Torward. DedicaTion day was on Sunday, April 5.
