LAURA ELKINS Eastern Mich. U., U. of Mich. M.A. LAWRENCE CLAUDE PERRY Mich. State U. B.A., M.A. JEAN MICHAEL Wayne State U. B.A., M.E., M.A. Languages Promote Understanding In our complex and expanding world, communication with people of other nations, and understanding their cultures and ideas, becomes increasingly valuable. In Oak Park ' s lang- uage classes, while learning to read and write a language, the students become acquainted with that country ' s customs and traditions, be it ancient Rome or modern France. The language teacher has the unique problem of intro- ducing a subject to the students, who are, in most cases, completely unfamiliar. The teacher must use many different kinds of teaching methods to present the subject matter effec- tively. As an aid to the teachers, the high school has a mod- ern language laboratory, equipped with individual booths, recording devices, earphones, and microphones. This allows the instructor to work individually with each student. LUCILE CORTRIGHT New York U. B.A. GEORGE GIANNETTI Wavne State U. M.A. ROBERT EUGENE TITUS Wayne State U. A.B., M.A. 15

The Cultural Aspect These two departments, art and music, provide a cultural oudet for the teenager ' s creative abilities. The teachers try to give the students some way of expressing their arti- stic interests. They also acquaint them with the history of the fine arts. The students learn to appre- ciate and understand the creations and developments of the music and art worlds. LEO DWORKIN Wayne State U., Mich. Stale U. B.A., M.E. SAR, H SMITH ' avne State V.
