FORMAL FAREWELL FROM SENIOR CLASS The time of graduation, that day that every one looks forwardto, sud- denly strikes us in a different light. To some, graduation means more than the completion of four years of schooling, it means,in some cases, that thetime has come to face the world, to go on to college, to serve your stretch in the armed forces, to compete for a job. Suddenly graduation takes on a new meaning. Some people feel an emptiness after graduation, others feel that they have climbed another step on the ladder of success. Regardless of your conception of grad- uation, you all can see the separation of the big happy family known better to us as the first graduating class of Oak Lawn Community High School. Under ordinary circumstances, this class would be one to respect, for they have set very high standards of behavior, co-operation, and school spirit, which we hope the classesto follow w ’ cling to and improve. Now let us view this same class as we all ky w it. The obligations of punctuality and paying attention were held t- :ven though the halls were blocked by scaffolding, the construction we ers demanded the right of way, one stairway wasn't completed, and .sses that were being taught without books werecontinuallyinterrup sy noisy but efficient workers. Yes, these people must be given a or deal of credit. These graduates didn't deve’ 1eir ownaccord. Iknow we stated that the class was remarkabl made no mention of the guidance behind the students. Our f- .th its indescribable patience held the attention of their classe- | aged to teach underthese great handi- caps. Not only did ft! . like their pupils and make scholars of them, but they dev A dle citizens as well. If the school ' sot a flexible faculty, that is, one that could teach, in school wel’ anderstand the students, be firm, yet be an active part of th cia mctions, this class could nut have turned out as it did.
