COUNSELING AND GUIDANCE SERVICE The shelves of Mr. Martin's oflice refiect the emphasis and importance which he places up- on the use of booklets and pamphlets in his guidance and counseling work with Oak Hills' boys. Last year he also worked part-time as a guid- ance counselor at the Ohio College of Applied Science, a junior college in downtown Cin- cinnati which trains engineering technicians and is affiliated with the Ohio Mechanics In- stitute. His favorite sports are basketball and swim- ming. He is a Red Cross Water Safety in- structor and has either managed pools or taught swimming for many summers. MR. DAWN MARTIN DEAN OF BOYS F' Mr. Dawn Martin, Dean of Boys, has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati, a Master of Education degree in administration from Xavier University, and has fulfilled the require- ments for a Doctor of Education degree in guidance and counseling at the University of Cincinnati ex- cept for the dissertation. He taught English at Withrow High School for seven years. In 1960-61, Mr. Martin fulfilled resi- dence requirements at the University of Cincinnati for the Doctor of Education and had a graduate scholarship. In connection with this, he counselled freshman education students. He worked with var- ious social agencies in Hamilton County in order to place these students for Volunteer work.

MRS. ALICE K. ROBERTS DEAN OF GIRLS Mrs. Roberts checks the absence list carefully to in- sure the accuracy of her records regarding illness absence, and attendance of all the girls in the high school. DEANS DFFER Mrs. Edward Roberts, Dean of Girls, has brought to Oak Hills High School many years of academic preparation and professional experi- ence, including teaching on elementary, junior high., senior high, and college levels. A native of Kentucky, Mrs. Roberts was gradu- ated from Holmes High School, Covington. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Kentucky State College, her Master of Arts degree from Cornell University, and did advanced work at the University of Colorado, University of Kentucky, University of Cincin- nati and Harvard University, where she served as a Graduate Assistant. Immediately before coming to Oak Hills, Mrs. Roberts was Dean of Girls at Holmes High School, Covington, and taught an evening class in freshman English at the University of Ken- tucky Northern Center. Her hobby is creative writing, and she is the author of three books of verse: Bluegrass, Bluegrass, Juniorf' and Bluegrass Seasons, as well as numerous published articles. For the past eight years, she has been a daily newspaper columnist for the Cincinnati Enquirer, Kentucky Edition. Her duties at Oak Hills include everything con- cerning the girls - attendance, discipline, guid- ance, college and vocational counseling, and job placement.

A LARGE VARIETY OF SERVICES Mrs. Elizabeth Gysin, secretary, finds that her type- writer is almost her constant companion as she pre- pares reports, bulletins, and absence lists as part of her daily work in the high school ofiice. t SECRETARIAL AND HEALTH SERVICES .a 5 f E 3 Mrs. Erlyne Schubert, secretary in the high school office, sorts the great quantity of mail which comes to Oak Hills each day, This is just one of the many tasks performed by Mrs. Schubert during her busy day. Miss Reba Sheppard, school nurse, keeps quite busy tending sick students, examining those returning after absence, and checking the absence list for those newly ill. In addition to her duties here, she serves also in the elementary schools of the district. 22
