Our President Three and a half centuries ago, in the year 1630, John Winthrop preached a sermon saying that America was to be a city on a hill with the eyes of the world upon her and that she must deal honestly with God or He would withdraw His help and catastrophe would be the end result. Today in America and around the world people are asking, What went wrong with the American dream? TIME MAGAZINE says we are on the verge of a national nervous breakdown. The wealthiest nation in the world with fantastic accomplishments seems to be going to heaven and hell at the same time. Perhaps the key to the problem was given by a prominent educator who said America made its great beginning by recognizing that the heart of man as well as his mind must be culti- vated and developed. But we lost our vision in the latter part of the 20th century and said spiritual and moral values were irrelevant. With the value system destroyed all sorts of devils plague us and our ship is without compass and rudder. Out of this catastrophic mess, leaders all over the world are crying for spiritual renewal. Only Jesus Christ and His Gospel can bring us life and salvation in this DARK HOUR of the world's history. But all is not black and all is not hopeless! In every land are countless numbers of brave peo- ple who are fighting for those things that are right and honorable and godly. There are increasing numbers of youth who are joining their company. They are deeply committed and possess a burn- ing ciesire to ease the hurt and pain that engulfs our society. And they want to do it now! Christian high schools in America are providing dramatic evidence that young people can be challenged and trained to become great leaders in church and community. The unique thing about Oak Grove which provides the springboard for academic excellence is the evangelical thrust of the Gospel message which permeates the staff and student body. Here the mind and spirit are exposed to knowledge and the cutting edge of the Gospel. The results are often dramatic as students witness and mature. The future of Oak Grove is just as bright as the promises of God! Pastor Bob President
