COURTNEY MTNERS PLACE SECOND IN LEAGUE PLAY The 54 Miners ended their gridiron season in five years as defeated the Rangely Panthers, 18-0. In the first game of the season Oak Creek met Superior on the local field. The Miners drew first blood, but Superior retaliated in time to bring the final score to a 7 - 7 tie. The next week the Miners won two non-conference games defeating Walden 25 to 0 and downing Granby 27 - 0. After three non-conference wins the Miners went on to win their first league tussle, beating their traditional rivals the Steamboat Sailors, 32 to 6. A record crowd watched the local boys score five successive touchdowns, while the visitors had trouble moving the ball until the final quarter when a do or die effort netted them their single score. The tables turned on Oak Creek in their next league game as they fell be- neath the drive of the Meeker Cowboys. In a furious rainstorm the two teams battled to a stand still until the final quarter when the Cowboys' final drives ended in success. After their only defeat the Miners went on to win another non-conference game, downing Kremmling 13 to 6. The highlight of the season came when the underdog Miners came back in the final quarter to defeat a favored Hayden team. A tense group of Oak Creek fans watched as the Miners, with seconds remaining, won the game on a 20 yard touchdown pass. The last game of the season was easily won by Oak Creek, as they downed Rangely 18 to 0. Having played eight games, the Min- ers record showed six wins, one tie and one loss. By virtue of their fine record the local boys placed second in league standings. best they ,5Po'nsor: The. ,S'tQ.'tSoh N No picture available: A. VALDEZ R. Halfback J. SLOBKO Quarterback G. HIXON R.
