. lJ x iT ' i V j v - ' iW ' A ) J A ' V ' Wait ' til Next Year That was the battlecry of this year ' s volley- ball squad after a very disappointing 0-6 sea- son. It wasn ' t for a lack of effort, as each player gave his all to avoid the unspeakable winless record. Coach Sanner, who kept the team ' s spirits high despite its lack of success, said we fought to win right to the end, but just couldn ' t pull it off. Sure, I was disappointed with no wins, but the most important thing is that everyone had a good time. Look out — next year ' s team is going to make a great comeback! 5. Back row: Mike Stevens, Tony Sullivan, Darrell Parks, John Minarcin, Rick Yoshida, J.C. Phillips, Albert Hor- ton, and Andy Lambright. Front row: Christina Lopez, Patsy Rollins, Cindy Smith, Cynthia Franco, Cindy Denhoed, Kellie Dean, Lisa Schulz, Cindy Algarin, and Coach Sanner. Volleyball N 53 (

We ' re 1! Size is not everything, especially to the Nueva Vista basketball team. Although shorter than every team in the league, the Aztecs used great quickness and team play to win the IECAL West- ern Division title. Then, led by the scoring of Ron Gauthier, Cedric Kelly, and Geoff Lang- ston, and the rebounding of Bobby Purcell, N.V. beat Ramsey H.S. 89-68 in the playoffs to ad- vance to the championship game. However, the dream of a league crown vanished as our heroes barely lost to Sierra H.S., 77-70. The regular season wasn ' t short on high- lights, either. Our team pulled off a great upset by sweeping 2 games from crosstown rival Lin- coln H.S. for the first time in the school ' s histo- ry. Our fine coach and great motivator, Jeff Ja- cobs, was very pleased with this year ' s team. Our kids played with heart and intensity, and showed their class through their sportsmanlike conduct all season long, commented the coach. 3. 4. Hounded by a Lincoln defender, Ron Gauthier (20) puts up a 12-foot bank shot. Back row: Coach Jeff Jacobs, Dennis Cross, Ron Haynes, Bobby Purcell, Walt Piatt, and Ron Gauthier. Front row: Darron Roberts, Owen Smith, Geoff Langston, Art Robinson, and Cedric Kelly. With a hand in his face, Geoff Langston (12) releases a long-range jumper. Darron Roberts lets go of a free throw shot as potential rebounders try to avoid a lane violation. sSaT 7 Basketball
