It Only Hurts When We Laugh M At least that was the consensus of opinion of those students who viewed this year ' s drama class presentation. For a much-needed change, Ms. Gooden wanted to take a different ap- proach to teaching drama for 1983-84. She de- cided to have her students do funny skits and ugly jokes as the basis for a comedy-variety show. The main point of the whole program was to get the audience members to be able to laugh at themselves despite their faults and im- perfections. The show was a great success, and Ms. Goo- den feels that the students did an excellent job, especially since, for most of them, this was their first performance in front of a live audi- ence. The three hours of madcap com- edy were highlighted by the pie-eating contest and the egg toss, neither of which were clean events. Susan Bachor, a walking jelly bean, won first prize in the costume contest. In other events, Jerry Oliver, Ron Phares, Joe Davis, Wes Rob- ertson, Mark Nickell, and Darrell Parks won the Coke Relay; John Minarcin and Mike Stevens hobbled their way to triumph in the 3-legged race; Roscoe Anaya slurped his chocolate pie in winning time; Ron Phares whistled first in the cracker whistle contest; and Victor Vasquez and Christina Lopez won the egg toss.
