In the following years more people settled in the area. In 1910, the Standard Chemical Co. came in and set up the coke ovens below Naturita. They then brought in ore from outlying camps. The Radium Co. of Colorado and the General Vanadium Corp. of Baltimore, Md. , also set up camps here, but these did not last long. Although these companies did not stay, mining was destined to be the major occupation in the Naturita area. In 1930, the Vanadium Corporation of American QVCAQ located a 60-ton mill just below Naturita. Mining flourished during the early 195O's, dwindled during the 1960's, and is again experiencing a renewing in the mid-197O's. 2 Introduction ,Ae- jx .jr

In 1938, the United States Vanadium Corp. --a rival of the VCA--located and built a model town CUravanj on the approximate site of the old jo junior mill which belonged to the Sanders Chemical Company around 1923. Uranium Vanadium mining became the major source of income from that time on. In 1953 the Union Carbide Nuclear Corp. bought out the USV mill at Uravan.
