Notre Dame offers a mixed chorus class At the request of several members of the student body, a chorus class was begun at Notre Dame. Students who took the course received half credit for the year. Held after school three days a week, girls as well as boys joined in singing and learning religious, and popular tunes. The group sang for Christmas mass at St. Catherine's, and planned the Spree. Directed by Mrs. Colyar, singing and harmony was a blast, and a lot of talent was uncovered and put to use. '-'LE' ,fi TOP: Mrs. Colyar gives the introductory note. Lettermen promote school spirit and interest The Lettermen have always been leaders in pride at Notre Dame. These highly awarded young athletes showed unlimited pride in their school by participation in sports, and also an awareness of the esteem of Notre Dame. Under Jim Hansen, President of the Lettermen's Club, one of their main projects was keeping the cam- pus clean and well-kept. They wore their title well, as a symbol of a hard-won honor not to be taken lightly. TOP: Steve Meier shows determination on the bench press. Weightlifting program builds athletes and pride The Notre Dame Weightlifting Program was the best in the city. ln its third year, it was headed by Coach Jim Naggi, who did an outstanding job of developing the weightlifters into first-class athletes. The weightroom itself was something for the school to be proud of. Through the efforts of Coach Naggi, numerous im- provements were made which included a paint job, weight-racks and several new machines. Weightlifters used the facilities avidly, during school hours and after. The famed Titan pride was always present in the Notre Dame weightroom. 'i l

HYPERION philosophy encourages freedom of speech lt seems that people at Notre Dame, just as people everywhere in the world, have a natural curiosityg boys want to know what the girls are up to, and vice-versa, teachers keep an uneasy eye on their students, students and faculty together want to know when and where the championship game is, etc. Satisfying this curiosity was THE HYPERION, Notre Dame's student- run newspaper. Hyperion, the Titan sun god of enlightenment, was chosen as a name which would continually remind the staff of its purpose of bringing the news to ND. Under the editorship of Mark Kwasny, Michelle Wright, and Cindi Christensen, THE HYPERION brought out the facts in such fields as social events, sports, and class news. Also included was the equally important field of opinion, through responsible editorials by staff and guest writers which attempted to sound out students' and teachers' feelings alike. Putting together a newspaper was hard work in itself let alone the newspaper of Notre Dame, an active school with widely diversified interests. Anyone who could keep up with our activities as well as THE HYPERION staff has surely deserved their thanks.
