JOE'S BIRTHDAY As is traditional, we celebrated Joe's birthday in September. He was present- ed with a box of cigars, a birthday cake, and the cheers of over 250 girls. No one ever asks how old .Toe is, but without him, Notre Dame would surely 1059 a familiar land-mark . Sarah Chang and Audre Worrall are shown with Joe at right. On stage: M. Baca, S. Tagle, I. Martinez . , HUTIVITIES FRESHMAN INITIAT ION The Freshman Initiation on October 8, 1953 was certainly a high-light of the first semester. Getting out of school early, the little sisters turned lagging footsteps toward the Senior Exclusive to don the initiation garb. Before per- forming the numerous tasks which would be demanded by the Seniors, they were taken to the cafeteria for lunch. After a delicious meal, they went into the yard to obey Senior requests. Their menial tasks completed, they were taken to the Auditorium where the Seniors entertained. And so, at the close of the day, many happy Seniors, followed by tired, but cheerful, Freshmen left the portals of Notre Dame and turned their tired foot- steps toward home.
