-'PHIVO SUJHZ coo 5 We f1nd the class wlth ' school sp1r1t plus w1nn1ng all the pennants at the begmnmg of the year and not w1thout good reason for all school X , act1v1t1es were very well supported by the Soph omores The f1rst class w1th the coveted lO0'7o membershlp of 1fs mothers 1D the Mothers Glllld was the Sophomore Class The1r efforts were rewarded by wmmng the f1rst prlze offered S25 00' Many Sophs were members of the vars1ty and Junlor varslty volleyball and bag Volleyball team The second year g1rls were also the champs of the mtra mural volleyball games Tenn1s enthuslasts of thls class were act1ve members of the el1te Tenms Club Thxs sp1r1ted class as well as the ent1re Student Body were happ1ly surprlsed when the long sought dance became a realxty The class wholeheartedly supported th1s dance thus mak1ng 'Snowflake Shuffle an event to remember The school Sport and Student Body dances found many Sophs worklng on the var1ous commlt tees as well as enjoymg the fun The Sophomores were hostesses to the Seruors at the very enjoyable Sophomore Sen1or Breakfast Thms year however he Sophs d1d not m1ss out on the eats they sat down to breakfast w1th the Sen1ors At the end of th1s wonderful year the Sophs f1nd the1r vast treasury of memor1es has grown cons1derably They remember sore throats after C Y O games the1r hard work on the traln basket for the nov1ces 1n Saratoga and their act1ve part 1c1pat1on on the Federatlon comm1ttees and school Clubs Now ready to enter the Juruor year they feel well prepared to uphold and defend the sp1r1t of Notre Dame as true chlldren of Mary , Q C33 , F' 9.-as: V - T O ' .f- x 5' 1 1, I I f km Z 6 kill' KU Q 1 X Q R 1. ei reshrncm FIQSMQS September 10 1953' Our fxrst day 1n hlgh school' Hlstory ln the maklng S1xty three strong we descended upon the halls of our Alma Mater 1n a typlcal Freshman daze' The excltement of seemg old frlends and meet1ng new ones changmg classes for the f1rst t1me tak1ng m' our new surroundmgs these and other c1rcumstances delayed our settl1ng down for a few weeks Then too we were left orphans dur1ng that f1rst month of school However we d1d manage to hold a class elect1on and showed that we were not 1n a complete daze by choos1ng a group of very f1ne off1cers Who w1ll ever forget October 8th In1t1at1on Day when all of us who hved through the ordeal became full fledged members of the student body? Our class cont1nued to make hxstory when on October 16th we attended the stu dent body dance We were the f1rst Freshman Class 1n the hlstory of the school to be so pr1v1leged We proved ourselves worthy so th1s plea sure w1ll be enjoyed by other Freshmen 1n future years After In1t1at1on and the student body dance our class sp1r1t showed 1tself on the way to tremendous growth Our f1rst pennant won for C Y O membershlp was presented and hung w1th much solemmty and I'6JO1C1I1g Next we walked off w1th the pennant for the largest contr1but1on to the Bas1l1ca Fest1val basket Our th1rd was won as f1rst pr1ze for the Saratoga Chrlstmas baskets On the eve of the feast of our Lady's Presentat1on we went to the chapel to consecrate ourselves our class and all our aCt1V1t1CS to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Th1s strengthened the bond of un1on among us and has helped us to l1ve our class motto Onward and upward Another f1rst for the Freshmen was our wonderful retreat at the beg1nn1ng of second semester Grace made many conquests dur1ng those three days In May our receptlon for the elghth grade g1rls rem1nded us that we were soon to be replaced 1n our lowly status As a f1tt1ng cl1max to a happy and prof1table year we played hostesses to our bxg slsters the1r fam1l1es and frrends at a beaut1ful receptlon whlch followed the Senlor Consecrat1on to the Sacred Heart As we y1eld our humble pos1t1on ln the student body to the 1ncom1ng Freshmen we V1Sh to say thank you to the Faculty and to everyone else who has helped to make our f1rst year 1n hlgh school such a memorable one nw:- , 4 n . - I H ' . . . . . .
