RELIGION IS A WAY OF LIVING Faith with growth and a deep meaning of life what the Religious Studies Department strives to teach Notre Dame students Father Frank Chair person of the department feels that Without this outline to follow we are shirkmg our responsibility as a Catholic school He goes on to say that We must provide our students with a substantial foun datlon on which they can build after they graduate Unlike some other schools which only offer one semester of religious studies Notre Dame provides a full year of varied religion courses By developing such a curriculum the Religion Department is in effect fulfilling the needs of every individual stu dent The freshman course covers three areas un derstanding human needs faith development and the Old Testament Sophomores study Jesus Christ as a Person Encounters With Man and The Sacra ments Juniors can choose from numerous courses that deal with the meaning of life or they can join the seniors in the study of Sexual Response and Religion and Marriage Religion is a way of living states Father Frank and by educating the whole person students can decide for themselves the place that faith will have in their lives Father explams that many students doubt the reality or the depth of their belief He insists however that This is completely natural because an individual usually does not determine until later in life whether or not religion is going to be one of his priorities The department s responsibll ity and goal then is to get students ready psycho logically so that as they mature they can make that decision about faith On the whole Notre Dame s Religious Studies De partment is complete with varied courses and in structors who are committed to making religion not just a class but a way of life x X.. sf Sister Marie Nicole Sister Mary Edwina Father Walter Nolan Miss Pauline Grula School Chaplain it i K 'er ,tt,, Iik It H: .. .Lt ..4bk --exp-Q
