our diocese, after the death of our beloved Archbishop Schrembs, has continued the great work of forming new parishes, to bring the greatest amount of spiritual good to the larg- est number of his people, and the benefits of a Catholic education with- in the reach of every Catholic child. This extraordinary zeal for souls is characteristic of our bish0p's every undertaking, as his many achieve- ments testify. Though with us for only three years, Bishop Hoban is known to us and throughout the Cleveland Dio- cese for his vibrant Catholic action. We students of Notre Dame are grateful to God for giving us such a leader and spiritual guide as our be- loved Bishop Hoban. Our Chaplain 'fGiving service in a manner at- tractive to all, genial, friendly, with a ready greeting for everyone" is only a small portion of a total char- acterization, all of which has the same ring, and all of which belongs to Father Natalis, our Academy Chaplain, and teacher of religion. Although we seniors did not have the privilege of being instructed by Father Natalis, we know from the juniors that we have missed an ex- cellent, conscientious teacher. Notre Dame's Inspiration Behind every successful project is a successful personality. Behind the well-organized institution is a person of character, leadership and vision. Therefore, dearest to the heart of every Notre Dame student is our own Mother Mary Vera, S.N.D. Although not seen in our midst as often as we should like, nor as famil- iar to us as the members of our facul- ty, she is with us perpetually in her remarkable guiding spirit. Serving as personal representative of Our Lady to us, Mother Mary Vera has been an inspiration in the life of every individual student at Notre Dame. Her name, a name of Htruthv, easily signifies what lN1other Mary Vera is for us: true educator, true inspiration, true leader,-surely a name worthy of remembrance through life, to help us live up to the ideals of Notre Dame.

For the past seventy-five years, Notre Dame has been giving to the world these Catholic-American prin- ciples through its graduates-its am- bassadors of God and Country. During our high school years, we have been taught truth, because our whole system of education is cen- tered around God, Truth Itself. VVe have been consistently educated to do all that we do, not merely out of obligation, but out of high and noble motives of love and service. While still in school it is com- paratively easy to follow this blue- print for happinessg but we are also made aware of the fact that all we learn under the guidance of Notre Dame constitutes a plan for our whole life. As ambassadors, we in our turn will enter a world sorely in need of the lesson of justice and charity to- ward fellow men. During the war humanity descended to the depth of chaotic iniquity. lt is now impera- tive, for the survival of the world, that the leaders and the people of all countries learn justice, love and truth. Tomorrow the world will be ruled by our generation. VVe must start now, by the example of our daily lives, to reteach and spread Christian principles. 'VVe can never forget the beautiful ideals which Notre Dame has laid before us. In order to remember them well, we shall take them with us in our "Tower Memories", where in picture, song and text they are recorded for us as they were taught, learned and put into practice in our school life. Our S pzritual Guzdef Our Bishop For the initial spiritual guidance of the world, we look to our Holy Father, Pope Pius XIIg also, for direction in securing our aim: a lasting peace,-a peace that can be such only if a Christian peace. His Holiness has the only key to turn the rusted lock of world in- justice and prejudice,-the key of Christian principles. These are exer- cised and applied in our great dio- cese by The lN1ost Reverend Edward F. Hoban, S.T.D., LL.D., worthy representative for us of our Holy Father. Bishop Hoban, taking up in No- vember, I94-5, full responsibility for

Our Principal Behind a smooth-running school is the guiding hand of an understand- ing principal who gains the respect and love of the entire student body. Notre Dame has such a person in Sister Mary Ralph, S.N.D. Always accessible, always available, her wise counsel and her personal interest are valued by every student. The Class of '46 extends most gra- cious thanks to Sister lXlary Ralph for her patient and devoted direction which has made the days of our so- journ at Notre Dame happy ones. When in future years we look back to our high school days, the tardy slips and ninth periods will be a hazy outline, but Sister Mary Ralph's smile framed in the office window will always be bright in our mem- ories. Our Faculty Something that VVebster does not include in his dehnition of a school faculty is the vast array of varied and complicated duties of a teaching group in charge of a large number of girls of different ages-freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The Sisters of Notre Dame Acad- emy have for four years fulfilled their obligations to us, the graduat- ing class of 746, just as faithfully as they have in their preceding years of service to the thousands of girls entrusted to their care. The chief obligations of the facul- ty lie in the physical, intellectual and moral education of their students. "Plan, strive, pray for success" is the motto they hold up to all of us whom they fashion and develop into loyal, worthy citizens. We, in our turn, backed by a thorough Notre Dame education, should be capable of car- rying on to completion the unfinished tasks of the present generation, as far as this responsibility will devolve upon us. ln the past several years, the stu- dent population of Notre Dame Academy has been increasing by leaps and bounds, and the faculty has grown in proportion,-each new addition to their number being a welcome and warm-hearted exten- sion, complementing the entire scheme of the spirit, facilities, and progressiveness of our faculty.
