Taner. v 1 The Student Council. with Mr. Oiltner as advisor. forms a more effective school government. to stimulate student participation in school activities. to create a stronger school spirit. and to promote greater cooperation between students and faculty. This year the Council has done much to carrv out its purpose. Among the traditional activities sponsored bv the Student Council are Homecoming Festivities. this year highlighted luv an added attraction of Color Weekend: the Nlarcli of Dimes Campaign, which has lween supported bv the Council for several years. and the Activity Dinner. which marked the end of another successful year. This year the Student Council attempted to improve school dances bv the introduction of a julie box. Also. the Student Council has helped in the planning of a Teenage Code.

Ackley Character, scholarship, leadership, and service the characteristics found in the students elected members of Chi Alpha, The Norwich chapter of the National Honor Society. I February seven seniors and nine juniors were selected by a combined student-faculty ballot in an effort to pick the most qualified students While primarily an honor society, the club, under the guidance of Miss Colpitts and Miss Obuhanych, has presented many worthwhile projects. A formal assembly was pre sented for the induction of new members, the junior members spoke at the senior honor student assembly, and the year was completed with a successful rummage sale. The club also participated in the area conferences. This yearis officers were: Denny Paul, President: Jean Fahy, Vice-Presidentg Janet Kerley, Secretary, and Vincent Caravaglio, Treasurer. Barry Burlison served as treasurer of the Central New York district of the National Honor Society.
