Industrial Cooperative Training The Industrial Cooperative Trainin Program is a work program for Juniors and Seniors wgo do not plan to enter college. The Program provides on-the-job training in such fields as printing, atuo-mechanics, cosmetology, physi- cal therapy, drafting, and many other similar occupations. The Program involves a cooperative arrangement with community businesses and industries. They furnish part- time employment through which the student attains train- ing under actual working conditions. Madison, U.Va., V Applachian State College Bell Choir, Bakers Dozen Music Department The purpose of the music department is to teach the fun- damentals as well as the appreciation of music. Participants are encouraged to develop their talent, but they are also taught to be a part of a large group. They then have the opportunity to display their talents at concerts and as- semblies both in and out of the school and in inter-school competition. U g I . The student may choose from various fields includingg Concert Chorusg All state Chorusg Mixed Chorusg Boys and Girls Chorusg and the selective Bakers Dozen and Bell Choir. All students would fine enjoyment in the music appreciation class offered. A The band students are given the opportunity to expand their musical sco e, acting as both a marching and concert band member. B.S., Vocational Eucation Industrial Cooperative Training -:ra'g '-' Distributive Education Distributive Education refers to vocational education for those engaged in distributing goods and services to the pub- lic, including all retail, who esale and service occupations. Its purpose is to provide vocational instruction for students so t at they will be prepared for profitable employment. Al- though the primary. o jective is to prepare youth for em- ployment, it also serves as a backgroun for those who plan to continue business in college. If an individual is to be efficiently prepared for profitable employment, he must be able to benefit rom the training he receives. For this reason enrollees must meet the following qualifications: be in 10th, llth, or 12th gradeg sixteen years of age or olderg be lawfully employed in the field of their training for an average of fifteen hours per weekg and be able to benefit from the training. Health and Physical Education Department The Health and Physical Education Department of Norview High School is composed of nine statin members. Each member of the department has a major in physical education. The department is divided so that girls are in health one week while the boys are in physical educationg the next week the class alternate. This organization per- mits maximum use of all teaching stations by both boys and girls. An instructor is assigned to driver training. The instructor and three beginning students in each car. The instructor controls the cars by two way -radios from a tower. The health department is designed so that there is no repetition of subject matter and the course of study is designed to give as much practical information for daily liv- ing. Physical education classes are designed to increase strength and endurance of each pupil according to his own physical capabilities and body make up and at the same time develop skills in activities which will carry over val- ue for sports which can be enjoyed in later life.
