Q tt' m , lj ,aa it W Foreign Languages Far away places and strange sounding names might well be the theme song of the approximately eight hun- dred students who yearly launch their career into the fourth year French, Spanish, Latin or first through third year of German. From every available nook and crevice of the building comes the sound of Happy Talku as teacher and stu- dent drill on the aural-oral skills which will assure the competence, fluency and measurable success of the stu- dent in his chosen language. Cultivation of, an interest in, and an appreciation for the language and endeavors of -its people are explored. Preparation not only for college entrance but for under- standing of the people around him are stressed. Linguistic ability is not the ultimate goal, just reasonable mastery from which the spark for gpeople to people understanding is ignited.
