Mathematics Department The Mathematics Department has been changing its curriculum to adjust to changing demands. Since a great- er percentage of students plan to go to college, a greater emphasis has been placed on courses entrance require- ments and to be successful in college. The most noticeable changes in mathematics curric- ulum are the deletion of a course in Solid Geometry and the addition of a course in Calculus. The more important ideas of solid geometry are being incorporated into a course with plane geometry to elfect a saving in time. The calculus course is oifered to able Mathematic stu- dents to give them a good foundation for college calculus and, in some instances, to enable them to secure ad- vanced standing in college mathematics. Both changes were made to strengthen the curriculum. Changes, less apparent, are being made within other courses. These are changes in methods of presentation, in emphasis, and is being added to facilitate and improve presentation of new concepts. Such improvements are more routine, but combined with the more visible changes, they do add to the general excellence of the mathematics program.
