We sincerely hope that the fifth volume of the CARDINAL will be enjoyed and cherished by all who may read it for many years to come, and that in the future you will look back on this, your annual, in re- membrance of the cheerful halls of Northwood. We Dedicate Our Annual to Mrs. Edith Craw Because we, the 1965-66 CARDINAL staff and students of Northwood, appreciate the knowledge and guidance we have learned from her, we dedicate this year ' s annual to Mrs. Edith A. Craw, teacher of Latin and English. This is Mrs. Craw ' s seventh year to teach at Northwood Junior High School. During these years she has taught many students the structure of the English language, the appreciation and value of literature, and the concepts of a foreign language, Latin. After the school day was over, many students have learned the skills of typing from Mrs. Craw during seventh period activities. For all of this and for the inspiration she has given us and the interest she has shown for us, we thank her and dedicate our vearbook to her. Administration Dr. E. Warde Kelly, principal of Northvvood since 1959, is a very dedicated and loyal person. He has served in other Fort Vayne schools before coming to Northwood, and he has guided Northwood through its seven years into being a very prosperous school. His fine abilities will help Northwood even more in the coming years. We are very lucky to have such a qualified principal and look forward to having him lead us in the future. Staff Renders Time Two people who are very important to the functioning of Northwood Junior High are Mrs. Ella Hess and Mrs Ruth Kabisch. They assist the principal in his regular duties, take care of attendance, take care of records, and help solve the many prob- lems of the staff and the student bodv. The 1965-66 school year marks Mr. Robert Bragg ' s seventh year at North- wood. Again we are honored to have his cheery smile, good sense of humor, and guidance. After ten years of teaching experi- ence at Auburn, Indiana, Mr. Bragg began his career at Northwood. For two years he stood at the head of a class before he was appointed staff as- sistant. • As staff assistant, Mr. Bragg coun- sels students about both their school and personal problems. Cardinals feel that he has done a great deal for Northwood. . . . Instrumental Music Prosper The 1965-66 Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Karl Gombert, prospered greatly during this past school year. The band participated in two concerts, the fall concert on December 5 and the spring concert on May 15. Prospective members of the Concert Band must try out for available positions. Many times three or more students compete for one position. Mr. Gombert then has the difficult task of choosing the student to be in the band. The following members of the instrumental music department earned superior ratings at the xNISBOVA contest February 6 : Jim Brunson, cornet solo; Leslie Douglas, flute solo; Randy Redmaster, clarinet solo; Jim Stanczal and David Vining. tenor sax duet. During the absence of Mr. Coyle, Mr. John Bechtelheimer graciously directed the vocal classes, concert choir, and the seventh grade choir. Musicians of Choir and Orchestra The seventh grade choir worked diligently during music classes and seventh period on Thursday evenings. The purpose of the choir is to become acquainted with the techniques of music. This practice prepares the members for the concert choir next year. This year ' s orchestra with its many fine members has been directed by Mr. Karl Gombert. They have been in three concerts and have been a credit to our school. Mr. Gombert, who taught at Weisser Park last year, has been doing a fine job with all the bands and the orchestra.
