Senior Awards Pictured above are the honor students of the class of 1957. They are from left to right: Janice Sandall, salutatoriang Ruth Ann Halverson and Dennis Grina, co-valdictorians. The following scholarships were awarded to the honor students: Janice ------------------------------- S300 from Jamestown College S50 from School of Medical Technique Ruth Ann ---- -------- S 600 from Jamestown College S150 from Luther College Dennis ------------------------------- S600 from Jamestown College S150 from Luther College Ruth Ann and Dennis also received general state scholarships to the University of North Dakota in the amount of 5121, and Dennis received an engineering scholarship for S150 to aNorth Dakota institution of high- er learning. In the athletic field Gordon Sondreal received most of the honors by being narnedmost' valuable player in both football and basketball. Gord- on was also chosen as the outstanding Senior athlete. Dennis Grina was chosen by his class as the most representative Senior. He also received the State Bar Association award for the Jun- ior or Senior with the best knowledge of the United States Constitution and government. 35

Northwood's School Band under the direction of Mr. O. M. Kepler, has fifty-five members at the p r e s ent time. There is also a be- ginners' group. This year the band part- icipated in the University of North Dakota's and May- ville State Teachers Col- lege's homecoming par- ades, played at basketball games and the district tournament, and gave a formal concert on April 30.
