Class Prophecy Dear Diary, May 24, 1977 Coming back on duty and checking through the night's reports, I discovered the name Ruth Ann Halverson. The name seemed to ring a bell, and I remembered my old classmate from Northwood High School. Looking furtherl found that her luck had again held out, and she was not seriously injured when she wrecked her fourth Ferrari. Naturally I made a bee line to her room and found her much the same as always, although she is now the head fashion merchandiser for Saks Fifth Avenue. As we talked we recalled old friends and classmates, and this is what I learned: Marilyn Hanson, the girl with the sparkling laugh, has now been hired by Jackie Gleason as his official laugher. Ruth Ann said she had seen Pat Ostlie, now the wife of the famous manufacturer of class rings, and had had coffee with her last week, andl remembered that Wanda Johnson, another girl in white was also married. She had wed a rich patient shortly after her graduation from nurses training. Wesley Knain, our friend over the coffee cup, had recently been appointed to the position of gen- eral of the Air Force. He always said he was going to make the Air Force a career. The radio, which had been playing softly suddenly blared, Gordon Sondreal, star center fielder for the Brooklyn Dodgers, has hit his fifth home run in his world series game against the New York Yankees. After returning from Greenland, Scott Johnson, the millionaire playboy finally decided to settle down outside of Northwood on one of his extensive potatoe farms located two and one half miles south of this thriving community. When Ruth Ann made atrip to Northwooda month ago, who should she see but Nancy Hanson. She is now the wife of the manager of the Krabbenhoft Farms. They went over to the Drive Inn , and Lyle Ellingson, Northwood's richest farmer and famous collector of antique cars, came roaring into the driveway. As Nancy and Ruth Ann chatted Ruth Ann learned that Sharon Anderson is married to the world famous constructor of school houses. She is kept busy most of the time with her nine child- ren. On her way back to New York Ruth Ann stopped in Grand Forks and saw Arlene Mullet, now the superintendant of schools. Last year when I was vacationing in Paris, I told Ruth Ann, I saw Becky Bilden. She is the pri- vate tutor to Princess Caroline of Monocco. Rumor has it that Princess Grace is so fond of Becky, she plans to make her a countess. Ellen Wisler was in Paris at the same time. She has been em- ployed as a secretary in a model agency, but she is now studying art under adirect descendant of Vac- Ghogh. The radio again interrupted our conversation. This time to announce Charlie Swenson and his Norwegian Oom-pa-pa Band. .I-Ie's gone a long way with that bass horn. On a buying trip to San Francisco Ruth Ann saw three more former classmates of ours. Ruth Thingelstad andher husband, the coach of the San Francisco Dons, and MarnaHaugo, Elvis Presley's private secretary and consultant, were both staying at the newly constructed hotel, which was an an- niversary present to Janice Tangen from her husband, the world famous hotel owner. I hear tell he rose from a lowly bell hop to his present position. Shirley Gunderson, after winning the National Betty Crocker Baking Contest, took over Betty Crocker's job after her retirement. We agreed that it seemed strange to see a familiar name like Shirley Gunderson's Cake Mix. The papers recently carried the picture of Margaret Sondreal and her millionaire oil tycoon hus- band as they started out on their annual vacation to the Riviera. It seems Margaret achieved her life- long ambition of becoming rich. As I stepped out of the hospital after our conversation I was reminiscing about high school days and ran square into Mervyn Bjerke, the general manager of General Motors Corporation and Robert Sherva, chief electrical engineer for the Westinghouse Company. They told me they were in New York for a world wide motor convention. The speaker for the day had been the world-renowned atomic scientist, Dennis Grina. Well, another busy day is over, and I guess I'd better turn in, because tomorrow I'll be back at the same old grind. Janice Sandall I8
