Class Histor In September 1945, fifteen shy, but happy youngsters entered Northwood Grade School to meet their first grade teacher, Miss Clara Dock. The class included David Allen, Rebecca Bilden, Margie Dahl, Dennis Grina,Charlotte Hagert, Ruth Ann Halverson, Marna Haugo, Gerald Holter , Verna Holter, Dean Johnson, Wesley Knain, Ruth Stamness, Janice Tangen, Geraldine Wall and Gordon Sondreal. The next year with one year of experience behind us, we returned a little braver as second graders. Again our teacher was Miss Dock. David Allen, Margie Dahl, Verna Holter, Dean Johnson and Gerald Holter left us, while Darlyn Halvorson joined our class. Third grade saw us with Tena Mehus as our teacher. Janice Sandall joined our ranks, while Darlyne Halvorson left us. In the fall of 1948 we marched proudly into the fourth grade room to be greeted by Iverna Johnson, our teacher. Gerald Holter rejoined us this year, and Geraldine Wall left in the middle of the year for Logan Center. The fifth grade was our next stop as we steadily climbed. Mrs. Schulstad was our teacher this year, and we gained two new students, Paulette Johnson and Ena Malle Toonekweg. Eileen Larson was our teacher in the sixth grade. Shirley Hannestad, Terry Thorsell and Geraldine Wall came into our class and Gerald Holter and Charlotte Hagert left us. With Mrs. Schulstad, Mr. Sethre, Mrs. Hanson as our teachers, we trudged proudly up the stairs to the seventh grade. Additions this year were George Desrosier and Deanna Onsager, and Paulette Johnson and Terrv Thorsoll left. The next year we returned as eighth graders to be taught by Mr. Lindroose. Arlene Mullet, Peter Lodoen and Patricia Ostlie joined us that fall. In the fall of 1953 twenty-three very green, very shy freshmen marched into the assembly. We were Sharon Anderson, Rebecca Bilden, Mervyn Bjerke, Keith Bjerke, Norman Aurland, Lyle Ellingson, Dennis Grina, Ruth Ann Halverson, Marilyn Hanson, Marna Haugo, Scott Johnson, Wanda Johnson, Arlene Mullet, Patricia Ostlie, Robert Sherva, Janice Sandall, GordonSondreal, Janice Tangen, Ruth Stamness, Geraldine Wall, Margaret Sondreal, and Charles Swenson. Ellen Wisler came shortly before Christmas. Highlights of the year were initiation and the carnival. Class officers for the year were Marily Hanson, president, Sharon Anderson, vice president, and Margaret Sondreal, secretary-treasurer. Our advis r for that year was Mr. Schulstad. The next year we returned as happy sophomores with Mr. Sheppard as our adviser. Charles Grotte joined us for awhile, but left soon. The main event of the year was the carnival with Mer- vyn Bjerke and Ruth Stamness as our king and queen candidates. Officers for that year were Keith Bjerke, president, Rebecca Bilden, vice president: and Ellen Wisler, secretary-treasurer. Charlotte Hagert joined our class as we ascended to our third step in high school. Keith Bjerke transferred to the Nortwest School of Agriculture. We were kept busy with our class play, Meet Me in St. Louis , the banquet and prom with the theme, Evening in Paris , and the carnival. Candidates for carnival king and queen were Charles Swenson and Wanda Johnson. Mrs. Pommier and Miss Simonson acted as our advisers and our class officers were Dennis Grina, president, Ruth Ann Halverson, vice president, Charlotte Hager, secretary, and Charles Swenson, treasurer. In the fall of 1956 we reached the final chapter of our school life. Charlotte Hagert and Ger- aldine Wall did not return, but Nancy Hanson and Shirley Gunderson were added to our roll. Mr. Sheppard was our advisor and the class officers were Charles Swenson, president, Sharon Ander- son, vice president, Wanda Johnson. secretary, and Robert Sherva, treasurer. Highlights of the year were the publication of our class yearbook, presentation of our senior class play, The Ner- vous Wreck , initiation, junior banquet and prom, skit day to Minneapolis, baccalaureate, and the long awaited graduation. Class Will We, the Senior Class of 1957, have sadly acknowledged the fact that our carefree school days have come to an end. We do hereby proclaim this to be our last will and testament. As we part we leave oehind our most prized possessions and traits. We bequeath to the Juniors our title as Mighty Seniors and our position at the top of the heap. The Sophomores receive our ability to stay out of trouble. To the Freshmen go our years of experience and character growth. Sharon Anderson leaves behind her many expressions and sayings to future NHS seniors. To Barbara Maurseth goes Becky Bilden's ability to keep her man. Annette Maurseth inherits Mervyn Bjerke's way with the teachers. Use it wisely, Annette. Lyle Ellingson wills his car to anyone who's crazy enough to want it. Jerry Gabriel has been honored with Dennis Grina's mathematical brain. Janice Myron recieves Shirley Gunderson's studious ways. Ruth Ann Halverson has consented to leave her absent mindedness to Dorothy Ber,ge. Sonnie Stamness may now have Marilyn Hanson's cheerful smile. After constant begging Nancy Hanson has agreed to leave her gift of gab to Diane Hannestad. Marna Haugo has consented, after much persuasion, to leave 'her Elvis Presley pictures to Pat Schol. Scott Johnson bestows upon Lloyd Eugen his ways with the girls. Wanda Johnson leaves behind for Verna Johnson her uncanny knack of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Wesley Knain hands down his slow easy gait to Gaylor Korsrno with this motto: Slow down and live . Arlene Mullet gives up her friendly manner to anyone who's feeling anti-social. Patty Ostlie gives to Darlyne Grande her numerous items collected from boys Robert Sherva's mop shall be passed on to the next willing worker. Marilyn Ellingson has been bequeathed with Janice Sandall's blushing cheeks and flirtatious ways. Gordon Sondreal willingly gives his steadfastness in romantic affairs to Jim Granberg. To Mae Onsager goes Margaret Sondreal's soft spoken ways. Charles Swenson transfers his bass horn to the next giant who thinks he can fill Charlies shoes. Virginia Larson recieves Janice Tangen's interests in the Armed Forces. Myrna Johnson falls heir to Ruth Thingelstad's naturally blonde hair.
