To carry them out, they formed a new club called the 'cBlock N, which augmented school spirit. Also, sweatshirts were sold to raise money for new skirts. They ended the season with a dance for the 6'Block N, in honor of the athletic teams. THROUGH EFFORTS OF CHEERLEADERS Left to right: Jo Ann Rader, Sally Clark, Sharon Bull, Carol Ruddel, Karen Skillings Nellie Mathews, Cheryl Houser, Mary Jo Mclntire, Becky Brown. 14 MAJORETTES, WARRIORETTES ENTERTAIN The Majorettes have stepped sharply this year, twirling at football games and at some of our home bas- ketball eames. They have added an- other new majorette, making their number seven. The Warriorettes performed with the band before football games and during the half-time ceremonies. Theyalso marched at the half dur- ing one of the basketball games. These 21 girls are chosen from three high school classes. They are led by a head XN'arriorette, a senior, and an assistant head, a junior. Mrs. Margit Heskett is the adult supervisor of this group. The Journalism class reports and prints the news of activities in and around Northwestern. The editor of the Smoke Signal, Jo Ellen Ransbottom, and the assistant editor, Jane NIcGillivray, were sent to a Journalism school in Athens, Ohio, last summer so the school and community could be informed by a better school newspaper. L. At the beginning of its year, the Smoke Signal was given a fine start under the temporary supervision of Mrs. Carolyn Nlaine. The adult supervision of the newspaper and the instruction of the journalism class then became the duties of Mrs. Ann Iclclings upon her arrival from Texas early in the autumn. They presented half-time shows at all football games and performed at several basket- ball games.
