National Honor Society Senior members of the National Honor Society inducted the new members into the Soci- ety, March 14. Stewart Albert gave the origin of purpose and growth of the society. The ideals of character, scholarship, leadership, and service were explained by Miriam Hul- linger, Sandy Hess, Kenneth Fuller, and Ronnie Grieser. Mr. Brinkman, executive head, gave the principle address and Frances Helsel, Janet Slagle, Joanne Shaffer and Beth Coy tapped the Juniors as Mr. Peters gave the accomplishments of the inductees. Band Formations for the coming football games were practiced to the drum cadence on bright, windy fall afternoons as the band under direction of Mr. Osborne, worked to ful- flll its goal of Look Good, Sound Better. The band took part in parades during the summer and per- formed at home basketball games. The swing band took part in the Follies, May 6. Four members who organized a German Band, a group playing at special functions, in- cluded Brenda Eidemiller, clarinet, Charles Ervin, trumpet, Winston Ervin, trombone, and Mariorie O'Briant, clarinet. Charles Ervin, trumpet, Noreen Keenen, trench horn, Ronald Phipps, trumpet, and Winston Ervin, trombone, were mem- bers ot a Brass Quartet, who received a superior rating at the District Music Contest. f , I Is I W .Q 4 1 ww, 'f ik, 49

National Thespian Society Formal initiation for Thespian induction was held April 29. During the ceremony, the origin, purpose, and duties ofthe organization was explained, to the initiates by Kenneth Fuller, Beverly Dill, Elaine Kitchen, Kaye Kraftt, and Janet Slagle, charter members of Troupe 1416. Literary Speech, Drama, Thespis, Music, Writing and Poetry, phases of the organization were described by the members and Mr. Stebbins, advisor, read the pledge to initiates. Refreshments were served at the informal gathering after the ceremony.
