Wildcat releases tension with big block. S. Driner portrays Wildcat spirit as he dribbles. NorthWestern's Junior Varsity Soccer Team completed the 1973 sea- son with its best record in the school's eight year history. Under the instruc- tions of Coach John Bauman, the Wildcats finished just under .500 with a 6-7-1 record, an improvement over last seasons 3-5-3 slate. The team was led by such able ath- lete's as Winston Dixon, James Schaftel, and James Floyd Fontan- illa. All three are varsity soccer pro- spects for next season. 5 59979. SFP-fe. xx J. V. Wildoafs Finish Besf Season Top left: Roger Estes is determined to drive in more Wildcat points. The Wildcat varsity soccer team, under Coach Raymond Mayrovitz, showed a marked improvement over last season's 2-13-1 record, compiling a 3-5-5 slate for 1973. It was the sec- ond best varsity record ever in a sea- son marred by injuries to key players. The offense was powered by Allen Brodnick with four goals and Joel Oppenheimer with three. Leading the defensive squad was all-MSA goalee David Pugh and halfback Dean Krimmel. NW's Cross Counfrg Teams Finish 6-3 Northwestern's Varsity Cross Country team finished the 1973 sea- son with a 6-3 record in A-Conference competition. Although not perform- ing as well as in previous years, the 'Cats competed fiercely and barely lost in their three defeats. Outstand- ing performances were achieved by Michael Merrit, Mark Darden, Ronald Brown, and sophomore sensation Mike Zollicoffer. The Junior Varsity cross country team also finished with a 6-3 record. In addition to having a fine season, they also produced many promising candidates for next year's varsity. ..- ---egQY.f- M. Zollicoffer and M.
