Dixong the catcher, M. Bess. First basemen were J. Hargrave, S. Tarver and K. Milesg second basemen, M. Astrop, and G. Robinsong third base- men, S. Solomon, V. Lowery, and M. Cummings. Short stops were G. Anderson and J. Crowder. Left fields- man was A. Gallowayg center fields- man, L. Montgomeryg right fields- men, M. Holly and L. White. Jeanette Hargrave was selected the outstand- ing senior player by coach Lillian Brown. S. Solomon stares at home plate. M. Bess catches the ball beautifully. 121

The 1974 girls' track and field team demonstrated versatility, ability, ded- ication, and team effort. Leadership responsibilities fell on the shoulders of Hilda Francis, named outstanding senior. L. Young, H. Francis, K. Moore, B. Johnson, and E. Harcum ran the 880-yard pursuit relay. R. Tiggle, T. Murdock, B. Johnson, S. Clark, T. Cunningham, and A. Shel- ton ran the 440-yard relay. H. Francis and L. Young - who broke the record - ran the 220-yard dash while S. Clark broke the record in the 100- yard dash. R. Tiggle, D. Claiborne, A. Shelton and T. Cunningham, who came in second, were in the 50-yard dash. D. Claiborne and T. Cunning- ham competed in the hurdles. H. Francis, T. Murdock, the best, were in the high jump. The shotput and the discus throwing were performed by D. Dailey, Y. Hurst, who came in third, and K. Moore, who came in sec- ond. Coach Juliette Edwards stated, This year's outstanding team has left me with a sense of awe and great pride in having had the opportunity to know and learn. T.
